Has anyone ever had an ABS problem? Out of no where my light is on and I have no ABS which has had me a few close calls when some jerk pulls out in front of me and and I have to slam the brakes and go sliding. Anyways the only guys who can communicate with the truck's computer are the UD dealer service guys, the nearest one being 3 hours away (and $110 an hour labor).

I took it up and spent an entire day there and they couldnt figure it out, all the sensors and parts they tested were fine. So I scheduled to bring it back and leave it for a day or so. Theyve worked on it for another whole day and can still not figure it out. What sucks is I'm a single truck owner/operator and not only is it costing me a lot of money but Im losing work and they are clueless as to whats wrong.

Just wanted to see if there is a common problem that any others might have experienced with the ABS system. I talked to one guy who said theyve had the problem and it was a wheel speed sensor, but they tested all the sensors on mine and they are working fine.

Anyone else out there had a problem like this with a UD?

The ABS has a sensor by each tire...each one has its own fuse that is in the box behind the cab of the truck....Normally..when the light comes on it is an indication that one of the wheel sensors has gone out...

To replace this is about $1000.........Mine went out and I just put a picture of my daughter in front of the light so it would not bug me...It does not effect the breaking on the truck what so ever.......My take on it is that...If someone pulls out in front of me and I have to power stop all that weight....The ABS is not going to make a difference on the out come working or not............

Jim,
I agree, but the lawyer that sues you will add it to the list of reasons his client needs more money.

If the guy pulled out in front of ME and caused me to wreck my truck then he better dig up Johnnie Cochrain......

Really it does not matter...ABS on these large trucks are a joke....there is no way if you have to power stop...( and really that is all they are for ) that it is going to make a difference with our weight...

The guy I bought mine from tried to jump start another car and did it wrong on the duel battery system and shorted the radio ..the ABS......and there was one other thing that I can remember......but I fixed it all but the ABS because it just is not worth spending the 1K on something so useless........

arond these parts, if you have a dash light on your vehicle will not pass DEQ. so you won't be able to register it to renew the license plates

I have a disk...( Thanks to Brad)..of the entire break down of the UD truck....I just went threw the ABS system on it and you could have a hand full of problems with it....anything from the space in the speed sensor to the relay behind the passenger seat.....
It has a real good break down of the entire ABS system on it ...If you would like I can make you a copy and send it out to you so you and /or your mechanic can go threw the system.........................

Yes Jim my mechanic would love a copy, he's tried pretty hard to get that info but he says Nissan does not want to give him any help.

As far as the brakes go they actually felt different from the minute I saw the light on. And now I have to be real carefull on gravel, like if Im going down a steep gravel driveway it takes nothing to go sliding, which I never really worried about before.

Hi Jim, I was wondering if you still have the abs diagram of the Nissan Ud and if you would be so kind to share it with me.
Unfortunately I’m having trouble with mine and it would be certainly appropriate it !

I’ll be waiting for your response, thanks

I honestly do not remember if I have it or not...it is not something that I would normally ever give away...

I use to keep it in my 6008 service manual but it is not in there....it has been years since I have had to touch that book...and I looked and it was not in there...I don't think I gave it away to the guy who bought my Vortex....That is just not something I would do...
Give me a few day to look around and I will let you know....

I had a town car they couldn't figure out why the light was on. I later replaced a ball joint and the light went away.

Go get it aligned. It should show any movement in the steering system. My guess is ball joint is getting loose causing the light to go on and the truck to feel different while driving.

Each time I felt something funny in my brake pedal it was a ball joint.

It could have been the loose nut between the steering wheel and the seat of that Lincoln Towncar.... Or the muffler bearing likes to go out also causing a lot of confusion when diagnosing it....

Oh there's no question the nut was loose.

But I've had two vans and the Lincoln all had the same issue as did my mom's car.

Do you see the pattern,?

This reminds of the time a Chinese lady tried to squeeze her car between my vortex and a muni bus and failed...She get out and exclaims, "Damn THIS CAR has been in 5 accidents already!" :eekk:
the muni driver and I just gave a sever eye and head roll and laughed.

If the disk is still needed I think I still have the copy Brad sent me. I can look this weekend. I cleaned my desk out about a month ago and hopefully I didn't throw it away
