how are the rest of you fellas in the north dealing with removing a buildup of the ice-melt?

here is how i treat it, but it still doesn't work as well as i'd like it:

- pre-vac w/ my Conquest.

- dry-scrub with my Cimex and it's STIFF brushes.

- cough and choke my brains out from all the dust.

- vac again.

- notice the buildup is still there, for the most part.

- bonnet clean it as best i can w/ my Cimex.

- leave frustrated.

Acid rinse thru your TM.

Or I would try just prespraying some acid rinse product and bonnet clean it off.

i will have to try that thanx.

question tho, have you tried this successfully on those areas that have HUGE buildup of the residue?? i'm not talking the white areas on a carpet in an entrance way, but a buildup so thick that if you rub it with your hand it is like concrete :?

I guess you could pressure wash it. :?

Got a pile lifter? Rent one?

Then acid rinse followed by bonnet.

hmmm never thought of pressure washin it

if my Cimex with stiff brushes cant cut thru it, i am totally guessing that a pile lifter cant touch it.

I just hit it with Powerburst about 1/2 hour before I was going to clean it and let it sit, then I sprayed it again and let it sit for about 20 min. and extracted.

Living in Rochester NY this is a problem that I deal with atleast 10 - 20 times a year. I have had best results using Release Liquid Prespray(Hydramaster) and running RinseFree Liquid(hydramaster) as an extraction detergent. I have been cleaning salt build up's like this for the past few years and it works everytime.

It is not salt in the ne that gives us fits. It is calcium chloride that makes a sticky residue. CC is a fertilizer that melts ice down to 13 degrees. So everybody in the ne uses this shit. I have found that a good prespray and a lot of 175 scrubing and a real flush with a couple of post cotton bonnets is the only thing that works for me. I prescrub with a ricky g tan pad and after that a cotton with green strip pad before rinsing-flushing.

My techs were using tile and grout wands at 3000 psi to break up dried sludge; then Acid rinsed after a good enzyme treatment in the Dakota flail!!
