Winter has hit.
The local supplier you count on to fix your equipment, suggest new tools or chemicals, Give advice on most anything and the one who buys you pizza lunches and fills your fat face with doughnuts during those boring IICRC classes is hurting.

and hurting bad in most cases.

Not a supplier in this country is doing "good" right now and with winter here, now is the time to support him or here with your chemical purchases, as well as water damage equipment, Taking classes, hose repairs, small tools, nick knacks ot what ever you can do to toss your ol pal a bone.

Forgot the 5 dollar savings you'll find by some no name on ebay or elsewhere on the net.

Support those that support you.

Truckmount sales are dead folks. I hear of suppliers who use to average 40 new machines a year now are struggle to selling just 3. The U.S. is flooded with good almost new machines for sale for less than half off. THis reality will not go away soon.

Do the right thing and that stuck blower you need unstuck yesterday just may happen next spring.

My original local distributor, a business that has been around like 50 years has closed. This is the guy that sold me my first portable, kept me from ruinous poor decisions and more importantly encouraged me when I wanted to quit.
Finding out he was closed down really struck me hard. Driving out of his parking lot a flood of memories and emotions stormed through my mind. I don't like that feeling and hope everyone will put their local supplier in the number 1 slot. Think about what it will be like to have NO local supplier before you give all your business to a mail order or catalog distributor. Sometimes the cost reduction is in total proportion to the elimination of all service.

Great reminder Mike, thanks man.

Locals here run cleaning companies on the side. Nice people, but they are still competing for the same customers.
IDGAS if they go broke.

I've got a local now, good guy. He's also a competitor, but I don't hold that against him. What I DO hold against him is the fact tha he only carries ProChem products.

Tell him what you would use on a regular basis... Ask him to stock that stuff.

Prochem is a very good chemical line Marty.

I suppose you buy backyard garage formulated chems from a local moonshiner?

My local supplier is also a couple hours away and do carpet on the side.

Good people. I've gone to them from day one. I will continue to support them as much as I can. I don't like to deal with people who act like they're your friend, but really it all comes down to money; "Don't got money?--I don't got time for you." I don't get that feeling from them. Shoot they even invite me to the shop for bar-b-que and fireworks every year on the 4th! shiteatinggrin

Keep in mind that most Supply Shop owners would be far better off financially running a premium one truck carpet cleaning business.

I have Butler for my truckmounts and a mechanic for my trucks

I also carry spare parts like belts, rebuilt Cat pump, 300 spare feet of back up solution line

many 'emergency' problems can be avoided if most owner operators were prepared

After-all, these parts are gonna fail eventually, so why not purchase in bulk and have it on the shelf to avoid downtime?

like that'll ever happen in this industry  , my local dist. tells me that most of his emergencies are a need for a couple jugs of juice to do a job that came in last minute.

Ah the headline... My LOCAL supplier is Wal*mart. The closest legit supplier is in Nashville, two hours away. I see them once or twice a year, but can get everything I need with a phone call or online.

You know I spend a small fortune at Walmart, work pants, sometimes work shoes (Dr. Shoals tennis) , Lucas additives, auto supplies, occasionally a scrub brush for spotting (.98 v the supply house $8.00) and even cellphones. I switched to Virgin Mobile over a year ago and love it. They are owned by and operated on the Sprint network and they have a monthly unlimited talk (including long distance for $49.99 a month WITH NO ANNUAL CONTRACT. Since I blow through 3,000 minutes a month it's a real money saver. Plus when you kill your phone there is none of that , " well the same phone you got for free when you signed a new contract is $300 ". You just hit the closest walmart and activate it / switch phones online and you are done. Pretty hassle free.

By the way LEE, I think Walmart should count as supporting your local supplier since they have a great sale on Peanut M&Ms .

lee stockweel........ who do you go to in nashville? interlink? or cleaners depot? im an hour from them. I like cleaners depot. I bought some chems last week, and my TM was broke. Charged me for the chems. But didnt charge me a dime to work on my TM. it needed a pressure relief valve, and tank filter. they are great. I was expecting to pay a couple hundred bucks. but it was free!

There are several local suppliers here. One is ran by a known crook, another seems to have went the way of being dishonest. Two others I have never visited, but from what I have heard, are decent.

The one I frequent is honest, not the lowest price, independent, has a few good people working for him, and is friendly. He stocks Prochem, Kleenrite, Esteam, CTI, Mixed Rite, and a few other brands. He also puts customer service as his #1 priority. Needless to say, I will be supporting his shop as much as possible. If he wasn't around, I would go to John Olson to buy what I need.
