Thankfully, due to a conversation with @Bryan S. Bennett this summer having a similar experience....I was able to figure this out and save a bunch of money, as I thought with 3000 hours on the cat pump....she was toast!

Not sure how it got into the system and past all the screens...but an inch long little piece of copper wire got lodged in the Pressure regulator....

Pulled it apart and saw it jambed in the bottom between the spring and steel ball....

It would have some pressure...go up to maybe 300 psi....the more I tightened up the pressure...it would do nothing or actually get worse....

Talk about my lucky day after all....

Worst part, I had someone come visit with his son to look at the new butler...and ended up showing him how to work on our older unit....

As soon as they left I got it figured out....

They did learn how to descale a Butler yesterday though :)

And tear it apart at quick connects....

This little piece was stuck down inside....

Filters are your friends. I add them wherever possible.

Sometimes you have to remember to check them first during troubleshooting.

Yeah....we have like 3 sets of filters and still not sure where this came from unless it was just waiting there for the past few years from something else and finally let loose.

I have filters before the water softener, a filter on the garden hose inlet, a filter on the cat water pump.....

So was really strange it made it to that point....but it did....

And great reminder post for others Lee....so far, I have had filters safe my system in more than one way in their lifetime....

The filters did get all checked and cleaned during the course of trouble shooting...so now I have clean filters again :)

(and now time to clean the other vans filters :shifty: )

Had tile and carpet Wed am .. I was having issues with pressure regulator .. same here - turning it up it jumped up to 1200 then bounced to 800 as I spun it back with no progressive movement. I tried turning it down to 400 but it didnt drop but the black handle damn near spun off .. then finally dropped down to 0. I thought the reguator was shot after 4years since last replacement.

I bought another and replaced the wacky one and while I was dismantling the regulator I discovered signs of metal shavings but no shavings. Im thinking itll end up in my check valves some day. After replacing with a new regulator it works perfectly. Pressure rises as you spin the handle without a sudden burst from 4 to 1200psi.

I have a Hurricane TM so I became a contortionist for a couple of hours. Parts were burried between a panel, water tank and behind the engine. 1st pic is the bypass barb fitting, 2nd pic is 1/4 in threaded inbetween parts piece (missing a partial thread), 3rd pic shows good size internal crack of pic 2
