Old hose reel motor has 4 wires, new one only 2. Can I still use this new one? How do I wire it if I can?

oh- Geez! after looking at the photo again the 4 twisted wires seemed odd-- so I untwisted the wires and discovered that the new motor only has 2 wires. Im thinking the extra wire that was twisted around the other wires was the negative wire-- perhaps from the battery and the switch?

I don't believe there are 4 wires at all, I think it is just two wires.

Please unwind/untwist wire and repost pictures of the old motor with just 2 wires.

No you wire it(send power) one way it turns that way, wire it got the other way and it spins that way.

You can wire it either way depending on which way you want reel to turn.

Just put male connectors on motor leads and female on switch leads, so if it backwards you can just swap them easily.

So it would go:
Wire from positive on battery to switch, then from switch to either of the wires On the motor.?.
Man! If that's the case-- The dealer machanic wired the motor wrong during the install..Had extra wires-- but same was true with my back-up camera they installed- which burned out the camera within few months.

You're just reversing the polarity.. If you hook it up and don't like the way it spins, switch the wires around..

A reverse camera has a video cable, positive, negative and trigger wire.. The positive is only hooked up if you want it to stay on all the time.. The trigger wire is what gets connected to your reverse light wire.. So it send a signal only when it's in reverse turning on the camera.. So it's possible to have extra wires, sometimes they send additional wire for longer runs like RV's..

Burning out also happens with a lot of products.. A friend who installs LED lights and reverse cameras swears by the $25-30 cameras..
