Over/Under on hose reel..(non-electric of course)

I noticed in the QC thread that someone said the hoses should go over on the hose reel. I was wondering why? Mine has always gone under. Reason. It is easier to pull down on the reel than it is to push up. When you have it going over it really puts a strain on your shoulders. For those that haven't tried it yet you really should. One thing you should do is cut a piece of pvc pipe and rip it down the middle and slide that on to the bar of the reel on the bottom. This will prevent the hose from hanging up on the reel.

No, It doesn't. Specially when YOU drag them in the dirt anyway.

It all depends where the reel is mounted. under wouldn't work on mine it would drag against my TM

This answer makes absolutely no sense when it takes a whole lot more energy to roll it back up the same way. It takes less energy to pull than to push IMO.

I remember this discussion a few years ago on the blue board, it had never occured to me cause I'd only ever saw hose go over the top, so I said I'm gonna try it for a week, it makes sense, it should be easier to pull down.

I didn't make it 3 days, maybe I just didn't mind the upward heave of the hose reel in the first place, but that under stuff drove me nuts, the floor of the van and bumper thanked me as well.

Do what you gotta do. I know now, I'd rather skip some steak dinners and have mac-n-cheese and buy an ELECTRIC reel with any TM regardless....time is money, and we aren't gettin' any younger....and with Elec. who cares if it's over or under?

Electric reel.
I regret not getting one with my TM.
When I have a helper rolling up the hoses...equivelent to the elect reel.
I can do an extra job a day from the fatigue factor. Time factor is better too.

In my trucks, running the hose under would scratch-up our hoses on the crossbar frame of the hose reel itself. In no time at all my hoses would look terrible. You guys rolling it under either have different hose reel designs or must have really ugly hoses.

However, other than the cosmetic impact, I can see a rationale in running a hose under vs over. The solution is an electric hose reel.

If you cut a piece of PVC pipe down the middle and put it over the crossbar frame, the hose will not scratch-up or catch on it.

manual-solution hose go over,
manual-vac hose go under, and i drive it with one hand and reel with the other hand, so i never have the hose touching the bumper and the floor of the van,
electric-either way works fine
