Be very careful if the item has been in direct sunlight. Admittedly we have extremely high UV over here but I have inspected a suite that had "sun rotted" on the back where it was in full sun throughout the day in less than 24 months from time of purchase.
If there is a slightly harsh hand to the fibre use a mesh between your handtool and the fibre.
Personally I would use a tannin spotter before I went to a Red Relief type product.
Wool is one of the most durable fibers used in upholstery, and can be made anywhere from dentist's waiting room tough to Saville Row suit fine. I wonder why it is so often overlooked by designers spending more money on fabric that doesn't last.
