Can the powerful portable machines on the market nowadays compete with truckmount drying times?
Not really talking about the big TMs,rather the typical slide in or pto machine.

These portables have shorter vac hose runs.
With all things (conditions) equal, can they compete?
Even close?

equal as in the same amount of dry strokes?

okay, even if you added a stroke or two more (ouch) would that come close to equal?
remember,average slide in.

I'm just curious if the guys out there using portables are leaving the carpets W-E-T?
I'm sure not everybody owns fans,or even uses them if they do. So, how are they comparing to TM guys that don't use fans either?

just wondering.

Usually 4 to 6 hours, dry to the touch, most carpets. 1 wet 2 dry passes.

BUT

It depends on face weight, fiber and humidity.

I used to use a high powered portable ( 350-400 psi ) with a bigarse gas heater and a total of 6 vac motors. On 30 metres of hose most carpets were dry in less than 90 minutes. ( in Brisbane ). not putting as much water ( gpm ) into the carpet but taking plenty out. Using a ( holed ) greenglided wand of course.
The new truckmount doesn't put out quite as much heat but puts more water in and takes more water out of the carpet with less passes. No power cords to set up/ pack up

ah....the miracle of 240v....lol

For the majority of the (yanks) here on MB, even though this thread will undoubtedly run far and wide for responses, I will voice my opinion with a simple No.

With new high powered elec. equip. we can get close, and can surely clean as well as the avg. 300 cfm truckmount, but dry times are not the one area I would wager a bet.

If TM "A" leaves 2% water behind, and Porty "B" leaves 4% water behind, all things being equal, it will take twice as long for the same carpet to dry.

Speed of production is the number one reason to buy a TM over a Porty.

That said, until you have cleaned with a 230 cfm. 1.5 gpm, 500psi porty using a TM rated wand and 100' of 2" hose, you really don't quite know what it's capapble of.
