Pumpout Problem.....

I've got this PITA PO problem with the Genesis external Pumpout. I had changed the impeller, which is a yearly thing. Here is the problem.....the PO will not operate at full flow while I'm cleaning (under vacuum load). But, if I go out to the truck and uncap the vacuum port, or remove the vac hose for a few seconds, it will flow at full force, even after I start cleaning again. I have checked the backflow valve, and it moves freely, although a little loose. What is causing my problem???

My Butler with an APO works very similar, I need disconnect a hose and get the load down under 4-5 hg or shut it down before I turn on the APO.

Once its flowing it will continue even when the machine is back up to 10-15 hg.

My system has a small Jabsco impeller and I think the vacuum is too strong for it to get started.

I never investigated it further because this method works, I'd be interested if anyone knows an ez fix.

After buying this truck I always buy the 210 waste tank from Butler

Just an idea but if the pump has any air in it and then goes under load then the impeller cannot overcome the negative pressure. If the pump has liquid in it - then it can overcome the negative pressure. See if there is not a high loop in the line that air can collect in.

Theres got to be something with that pumpout. All I ever get is an empty water tank when I try mine. Stopped using it altogether.

The Pump Out is drawing air back from the outside under high vacuum.

Once it has air in the impeller, it won't prime until you reduce the vacuum level.

Have you checked the backflow check valve?? Any leak will cause a problem.

It could also be worn impeller vanes.

Doug - some mfgs draw a little water into the rubber impeller to prevent dry friction

Larry.....I checked the backflow check valve....it is loose and dangling if you flip it with your finger. I just changed the impeller last month. The old one was still in good condition, but a real bitch to get out!! The Genesis uses a Jabsco belt drive, with a solenoid actuated water prime when the pump turns on. When it does activate, I just get a real low flow.....when I uncap the second vac port, it goes to full flow and keeps flowing even after i recap the vacuum. It will run till empty. I've got a small drip under the pump body.....I'm hoping it isn't the shaft seal leaking.
