Had a custodian quit yesterday. No explanation just said his keys and uniforms were in front of the directors door.

We always had guys that had trouble making it 5 days in a row. If they worked a big job Saturday you could be sure they were sick Monday.

"If its truly your experience, then you are drawing in the wrong people. You need to find better candidates."

I've hit the jackpot with these 17 year olds. 2 steady and met about 4 or 5 of their friends already. Been training them on janitorial and the occasional carpet job until things pick back up.
$10 an hour plus some travel time.

Damon the temp sgency will want your bank account numbers and I felt real uncomfortable with that. Just so you know.

What's up with work mans comp?

Damon, if you expect to find any good prospects, you need to start with a higher pay.

no one takes a $12 an hour job seriously.
regardless of "promises of riches later"

Reality check's in order now..

any "acceptable" prospect (meaning they don't scare the public and can speak coherently)
Any acceptable that's not a complete moron or loser or a registered child sex offender, won't take a 12 'n hour job that involves labor, when they can go to Starbucks, Quickie FuelMart or sit in a telemarketer cubicle for $ame

and at least there, they can flirt with chics instead of listening to fAthED Rush and you phart

bump up the pay, be more selective and can 'em quick if they don't "get it" within a few days .
(a few days is all it takes to see if they have enough intuitive sense to ever rise above hose jockey)

Unless you hit the lottery, you'll go thru a bunch a clueless mOOks, or dysfunctional some way, or outright worthless fcks to find one capable, honest, solid man that will stay around for more than a minute .

Fact of life Brother, and don't let any monkeybutt tell you different

Don't get discouraged.
if it was easy, anyone could doit

When I dropped the guy off on Friday, I told him, "You better show up Monday. I ordered you 5 work Polo Shirts, a Jacket, and two hats." I guess I should be glad he quit before I gave him all the embroidered clothing.

Rush? really?

I guess that accounts for the "no sense of smell" requirement.

Damon is there Subways in Redding? Look for a decent looking subway or similar employee and offer them a better/more interesting job. Pay would be more.

another way is to find a construction guy who makes 12-15$ but has to bust his ass 7am on the job site with a shovel.

I try to run things 9am - xxx 9 is easier on the type of person your probably looking at hiring. Imo your going to have a lot of calling in sick, no show, etc starting too early in this business.
