At my SFS class we were put into groups and we had to design a Yellow Page ad with some basic marketing elements included.

Can I assume you've ditched this part of your program and moved on to web site design/SEO?

I can't read whats on the paper in these pics..

Yeah, Billy goes over how the Yellow Pages are dead...they just won't lay down yet.

We went over different marketing stuff for internet and other venues.

Does Steve save a half a day for going over how to design a $6.95 a room coupon?
Nope, Mikey. I leave the formal marketing stuff to my faithful sidekick, "Big Bad Billy Yeadon". (I just recently had a SFS member add the "Bad" to the nickname. Sometimes the absurd works.)

PS Obviously implementing a Business Infrastructure that will consistently create delighted Customer Cheerleaders IS "marketing". Bu given that BBB Yeadon is a)obsessed with and b)very good at marketing I don't stray much into his area nor he mine. It is an arrangement that has worked very well for many years.

BTW, Mikey, since you are so curious why don't you and Paula come back as honored SFS "alumni"? BBB Yeadon and I have redone the course several times since you guys attended. Plus every single SFS member tells me they learn AND implement much more the second time around. For example ...

Heck, even Chavez will reluctantly admit he learned more on his second visit to SFS. The jury is still out on the "implementing" ...

I most likely will someday.

But not the wife.

Other then being responsible for doing the taxes and cashing the checks Paula is hands off.
I'll have to bring Nicole from Full Circle with me to take note and poke me in the ribs when I fall asleep.

But if Cole or one of his phony contractors shows up and you start kissing his ass, I'm gonna vomit all over that cheerleader outfit of yours.

I just recently emailed the SFS Phone script to Nicole ...specifically because of the "Let me ask my husband" part.

She liked it and was telling me that it had been a problem for them lately.

Thanks SFS!

I should have mentioned that Brian runs a close second to Yeadon in his love/obsession for marketing.

PS Mikey, you will be happy to know in my last SFS course revision we substantially reduced the "fill in the blanks" section in the workbook just for you.

Mikey,
Yes I have dropped the YP ad design. I figured seeing that I trash it there is no sense in running a breakout on it. Secondly I have Ivan Turner come in and do an hour on restoration marketing. I had to pull the time from somewhere.
As for the web?SEO I am opening that up as a discussion with everyone in the class. Basically I am looking at it as a lot of people are trying different things that are working. That field is changing as fast as Google changes and we need to keep it current. I can't redo the manual fast enough to stay current.
As of the next rewrite this summer I am thinking about emailing the basics ahead of time and starting from a higher level than I currently do. The problem in any class is that we have vast differences in the knowledge level of attendees.
There will always be a continuous change in the courses.

No doubt that BBB knows his stuff, BUT, I'd like to see him, you(steve) or Chuck start a cleaning biz next month and see if you would go the route of Cole, or if you'd go 180 degrees opposite in the type of biz you'd "MARKET"???

your answer will help me decide if i'd ever make a return visit to Tampa or Atlanta!

it's mean replys like that, that have caused Super Star posters like JamES LAdwig to leave this middle school playground. just because we couldn't make it to NAShville doesn't mean we're not still part of the "in croud"!

if you are a profit, and i have a turd counting job this time next year, i'll name as many of them after you guys as i can!!!!!!

Danny,
I know you know how to use the search function. Mikey asked me that question a few years ago and I rambled on for several pages. Surprisingly carpet cleaning would not be my main focus.

so why are you still in this industry? you have a ton of knowledge, but it's old school. why would you not be a cleaner? would you be in restoration or not in this field of work at all??? would you write books, or be a beta tester for all the new Starbucks concoctions???

Danny you seem to be asking the same question on 2 different threads. How many people on this board or in this industry focus on fine fabric cleaning and how many focus on carpet cleaning?

I would focus on the first. No need for a TM , a large truck, or multiple employees. That doesn't mean it is right but you asked for what would I do?
