question for direct drive owners

looked at a clean co today, unit ran good no issues, when i test drove the van there was a weird vibration and rumble. is this normal for a dirct drive unit? also if you have a cleanco with the pti ,what type of heat are you getting.

On our White Magic units the shaft will make a vibation sound if you stab the throttle from a stop. Occasionally the rubber bushing (easily replaced) on the shaft mounting bracket gets torn and the vibration happens under various conditions.

If the rpms are steady and there's a constant vibration that sounds similar to a worn rear end on a car then the pto shaft may be on it's last legs.

My Cleanco also rattles / rumbles. It seems to be a particular rpm that aggravates it. At highway speed it isn't there, seems more noticeable driving around town (I usually speed up or slow down a few mph to make it disappear). I get the feeling it is not uncommon as a friend of mine has a Cleanco and he said his makes the same noise.

Have seen 200 degrees atw with a lie detector.
Simple, reliable machine.

must be the rear of the van. i did`nt see the shaft spin while i was driving , is that possible.i did`nt take it on the highway to see if the sound disappears.

The shaft won't spin until the electric clutch is engaged. On some units you will hear noise from the engine that travels through the tube but the driveshaft just sits motionless... waiting...to start the machine and wake the neighborhood.

this is definatly not thru the engine, from the info i`m getting is it`s either the pto or the driveshaft. thanks for your help

It's the PTO. We have the same problem on our units. Could be a sign that the bearings are going.

With my Cleanco it's not a bearing issue as it has made the noise from brand new. It resonates from the shaft.

I just replaced the shaft and bearings in one of my units last week. When it's new we get very little of the vibration/growl.
