We have had that over the years. They don't want to be booked for the end of the day because they want clean water used on their carpets.

I had a lady ask on a 4 pm job if the water was real dirty. I asked her why she would ask that , she said her sister told her that carpet cleaners recycle their water. When I told her I did not do that and it her husband looked at me like I was a DAMN LIAR!!

I took him out to the van and gave him the 101 on truck mount operations.

So is it possible to reuse the water with multiple filters? Just wondering what it takes to do it.

I have been asked to see the dirty water, especially by the man of the house who didn't think the carpet needed to be cleaned

but have never been asked if we use dirty water

I hear them say more than anything ese

"cleaning carpet removes protector and makes your carpet dirty fast"

everyone wants an early apointment cause they want their carpet to dry some before the kids get home....yet everyone expects days to dry.

I haven't heard the recycled water thing yet but I would believe that people would think up stuff like that.

It seems everyone makes up excuses for the lousy carpet cleaning job they got by making up theories and taking them as the scientific truth.

I used to have a CFR Paramount extractor. The unit was a self-propelled portable that recycled dirty water. It could cover 5000 sq. ft per hour. Piss poor cleaning, I could get the same or better result form encapsulation cleaning. I used it for some jobs for a national contractor that specified hot water extraction and wanted to pay .03 per sq. ft. 5000 x .03 = $150.00 per hour.

there used to be a cleaner here in Vic that recycled his water.
I have had clients think that I recycled the water and they wanted to be the first client of the day to make sure they got the cleanest water.
I didn't really know what to say other than explain that the water goes on a one-way trip, from my fresh water tank, through the carpet and out to the recovery tank.

I've been asked.

If you think about the cleaner being "self contained" you could imagine how someone might think that we just carry around a hundred gallons and just use and reuse it.
We don't think this because we know how it works.

The question has become common partly because of the car wash industry.

Also, some carpet cleaners have used the possibility that water might be recycled as a scare tactic. They aren't lying, as there is a possibility that somewhere there might be someone with a CFR unit that might somehow find themselves cleaning residential carpet with such a unit.

But, of course, that's not the point. The point is to use the scare tactic as a cheap (if effective) tactic to get them to use that cleaner.

When I had my prowler a liberal asked me that; I just look at water hose connected to HIS house and drain line connected to HIS sewer; and kindly explained the hose setup; then he turned around went inside and continued what he was doing; After I finished nearly restoring his 40 year old carpet to like new compared to before cleaning; he nicely handed me a check and tip included with mustard all over his wife beater.

More in the 80's when CFR was popular with their recycling of waste water.

Their system actually clean pretty good if you can get past the colored water. The shearing action has been copied to make some of the best upholstery tools today.

80's....Steven, weren't you sitting in an over stuffed pamper back then? Funny how time has changed but you still doing the same thing! :p

I worked at Sears carpet cleaning in late 80's and they bought the new CFR .. I thought it was ok until I cleaned urine out of the din-rm and transferred it on to the steps .. also the next time I used it .. the 1st room was a pink carpet .. I pulled the trigger and out comes a black line of dirt .. I damn near ruined the pile trying to get the line out.. after that .. I never used it again. Later on in life I worked for a commercial carpet cleaning company who had a CFR .. it was pretty good for doing large square footage on a monthly schedule.. less trips to the slop sink.

Man have I been blowing it. People ask me quite frequently if "That water gets really dirty"

I always say yes, especially when I do restaurants. It looks like used motor oil.

Only one person ever asked me if I changed the cleaning water often. I explained that I had two tanks.

I really hope those people asking me about how dirty the water gets aren't assuming I recycle the waste water.

I get that question about twice a week. They are the same ones that ask if I am hooking the solution line into their sink after watching me fill the solution tank and hook the solution line to the machine.

I used a CFR back in 1988. It cleaned terrible. I used it once on a commercial job. Man I'm glad nobody saw me using that water recycling POS. My dad was actually a distributor for those poor excuses for a carpet cleaning machine.

Damn, I've had it happen a few times. Seems like we should have it on our faq pages since a lot seem to ask about it.

Damn it Steven! Thanks for reminding me how old I am. That is the year I graduated High School.

I have not been asked if I used recycled water, but it was a critcism of previous cleaners a couple of times years ago. I don't know if the other cleaner actually ever did but it was the perception of a few of his customers. He had exited the field before I started.

Only once that I can remember but they do ask if the water is dirty after we have finished the job.

We recently had a lady that insisted on seeing the water, her carpets were bad and came out great but for some reason she had to see the water. I tried not to show her and told her I shouldn't dump it on the ground, so she grapped a 5 gallon bucket and asked me to fill it.
Kyle and I could hardly contain ourselves as she swished her hand around in the bucket of goop, man was she impressed when she found the sediment in the bottom.
