Friend of mine got a great deal on a fur shawl coat, $4 !
But it has a spill on the suede side.
How would this be cleaned?
COuld this be simply wiped down with a damp cloth or maybe using an encap or uph cleaning solution?

You should vacuum it lightly and then use a warm damp cloth, then go from there.. Now go be her hero...

A damp cloth would probably having a pH of 7, what would be the pH of your uph cleaning solution?

Suede is pH sensitive; a leather-safe product range should be from 3 – 5, otherwise it will cause rings even with water at pH 7.
Next is when wet and dry again, the suede will be stiff and feels like sandpaper – fatliquor replenishing will soften the suede with suppleness.

Here is sequence of pictures that show how stain from suede was removed.
