We are **** ***** ***** on the SC wharf. We have about 3 dozen chair (cushions) that need cleaning. Would like to get a reasonable quote for when we open back up for indoor dining and then discuss a regular cleaning plan. Thanks, ***** ****** (General Manager)

how would you reply?

All depends on what kind of cushions. Outdoor sunbrella or some indoor fabric. Condition? Worth while to stop by and inspect.

Is your concern that the individual asked for a “reasonable” quote? Just ignore that. We all know they want the lowest price possible, and that was just the person’s way of saying it.

If you make any attempt to acknowledge or challenge that word and it’s meaning, you risk coming off as condescending.

I would reply by making an appointment to come down and look at it first hand. Nice things happen when people meet face to face.

Coastie said it best.

The ‘ regular cleaning plan’ is a way to chisel the price now , with the empty promise of giving you additional work later

he’s probably not looking to spend more than $250-300

@Monique how will you handle this, reasonably?
Like Marty said I will ask for a reference photo, and then I will quote our regular upholstery prices. We are lucky we have enough work to the point we don't have the need to drop our rates to please priceshoppers. But beyond price being an issue I think they expect we would be available on short notice as soon as they get the go ahead to open back up. I will respond like we would like the work but I imagine we're not the best fit.

I usually quote these "regular cleaning plan" teasers at full price for the first time around. "Takes more work to get them up to my standards". Then tell them discount applies if scheduled within the next calendar quarter.

I would ask them directly : "What would be considered reasonable?" since it was they who asked for a reasonable quote. Let them tell you what they want you to charge. In other words, call their bluff and don't waste your time.

Then go from there, ....................................or go home.

Yep\

I learned the hard way... early days I quoted an office building for one time cleaning and also for semi annual and quarterly with discounts according to frequency

they accepted the quarterly price and we cleaned there once

An oft repeated tale in both the service industry, and the supply industry.....

...I was once young, dumb, trusting, and eager too.

I am sure that you have a reasons for the prices that you charge. Thus by definition your prices are reasonable if to no one else but yourself.

It always hurts when veteran cleaners can't read the signs and or understand the language.

"Would like to get a reasonable quote"- Translation: We want the cheapest price quote and then we'll shop around.

"when we open back up for indoor dining"- We'll expect you to be there at a moments notice. Most likely some time past midnight.

"and then discuss a regular cleaning plan"- You'll never hear from us again.

You still have to go through the motions. You never know.
