The pump started leaking water between the pump head and body. It also seems to be putting out less volume when cleaning tile. The pressure adjusts up and down and the needle is holding steady. I have a Boxxer 421 with a little over 3800hrs. A seal kit is about $50 Check valves are about $50. A complete new pump is $274 with free shipping.

How do I know if I need check valves?

Rob, with 3800 hrs you got your moneys worth from that pump. I would just replace it. You could buy the kits for the pump head and rebuild the top end but the crank etc still has 3800 hrs on it. I would just replace it.
