As they say, a problem identified is a problem half solved. The intake gaskets were shot. 104,000 miles and 5600 ish PTO hours, the first major repair. Not bad in my book. The inside of this engine is CLEAN! Change your oil regularly boys.

Commencing reassembly. I have to be done today for a full schedule next week. Wish me luck.

There are only 8 bolts attaching the intake to the heads. There are no center intake manifold bolts like on old style Chevy engines. Design flaw or inprovement?

I'm doing the same today on my Ford. Ready to throw it back together. If torque specs for those bolts are in INCH-pounds, DO NOT use a FOOT-pound torque wrench. Don't ask me how I know this.

the small block chevy never had any center intake bolts unless you are talking about the centers on each side near the heads. I always ran a bead of orange RTV on the front and back to seal the intake to the block. I have turned a wrench quite a few times on a small block chevy.

Don't replace the anit freeze with that GM junk. Its makes the gaskets go bad.The orange crap made my intake gaskets go bad too and I run a slide in.

The installation is complete and the truck is heading out to make a few scheckles. There was only a couple plot complications but all in all it went rather smooth.
