Kidding, I know it is not, just wonder what did it.

clean an office suite. carpet clean, good shape. glue down commercial olefin
just this one area at the front door. looks to have had some kind of color transfer. it is in good shape, same pattern, just darker. no distortion, degradation ,, just darker.

Cgd usually crush's flat, I would guess a matt at the first door preserved or crushed the pile in a different direction.

Looks like a mat or comparable size rug was on top ? Also inside and out side uv did some damage...Looks like lot of sunlight enters area.
Yes, at first, however, throughout the place, not a lot of widows/uv light, and the carpet is uniform throughout all the areas , no fading. Only that one area, not really faded , just darker. I realize that something had to be there at the entry, but just wondering what it could have been. Had there not been an extremely slight gradient in the change of color I may have looked to see if a patch/( I know, bonded insert ! LOL!) had been done there some time in the past.

the texture of the pile was consistent / the same in all areas. No crushing distortion.

Caesar got it right, there was a mat there at some point. Look how straight and uniform the edges are. You don't need direct sunlight to cause overall fading.

If my training from the last century is correct, blue dyes are the least stable and most prone to fadinD

Does that apply to solution dyed olefin as well?

It could... especially if it isn't 100% olefin. We had an "olefin" in a basement many years ago that wouldn't stop browning out, no matter what we did to try and correct it. I tested it, decided it was olefin and used Chemspec's Rx for Browning on it, which is a peroxide based bleach. Yep, it was a blend and I bleached it all out and we bought the customer new carpet. :icon_redface:

Carpets do not fade evenly i belive it off gas discoloring. When you place something over a carpet thats plastic or latex, the carpet is off gassing and so is what you put on it,the color change is a chemical reaction due to the gasses trapped between the carpet and whatever is on top of it. The rest of the carpet seems to be uniform in color. I would think if it were that severe of fading there would be more evidence of it. For instance around the edges?? where other furniture was?? Even the vertical blinds would cause different shades and patterns in the carpet Have you ever moved low to the floor piece of furniture(like a sofa) in a room with little natural light and seen a distinct color change?? Usually brown in color?? thats text book off gas browing same thing happens with a latex backed rug on a sheet vinyl floor sometimes the floor browns underneath the area rug also common with stepoff mats on carpets. What is off gassing ?? Well a good example is "that new car smell"
