Roots blower...belt tensioner snaps out

We changed the 2 belts on the blower a few weeks ago. I thought they were a bit tight and should have told my helper to loosen it a bit but didn't. Today the tensioner snaps out. It's held by 2 bolts. The bolts actually broke off.

Is this due to an overtight belt?. One of the pieces of bolts unscrewed easily. The other, we'll see tomorrow morning. A small piece is left and we'll try to drill it out.

I can't imagine belts ever being tight enough to break bolts. vibration and loose nuts could fatigue them and the belts could have been the final blow. anytime a bolt breaks i replace with grade 8.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to order some grade 8's. I put some crappy zinc ones as that is what I had at the time.
