How many of you quit using it after a while?
Any particular reason otherthan no accessory hose?

Im really liking what I'm seeing. Digs like the dickens and very light.

Like a Sanitiare but a long lasting belt

Mikey,
I'm on my 3rd Sanitaire and I never had premature belt failure on the first two, but definitely on #3. Weird. I must say that the new handle, cord wrap, and height adjustment are much improved, though.

I had a Royal for a while but didn't find it much better than the Kirby and ditched it. But that was 43 years ago.

Glad to see your interest in the Royal vacs. I've been using them since 78. Came as part of my original cleaning package, which also included a Certified pile-lifter and Husky 17" floor machine. I currently have a year old Royal and it really gives the carpet a good paddling. I've also used at one time or another Hoover Conquest 1's Kirbys, Windsors. Try hooking that up to your TM for a real blast. I made an adapter from an old bag with a 2" hose fitting.

We use Proteam back packs now, but a decade back used Royal commercial vacs

Had on Sanitaire and didn't care for it. Those o ring style belts are thin and snap too easily

Royal and Hoovers have nice wide belts that last for a year plus

I had a Royal commercial several years ago. I liked its performance. What I didn't like was how it corroded in my van. Granted, the back of the van always had moisture in it. The aluminum chassis would never stay shiny, even though I tried to polish it. The aluminum would pit and turn all grungy looking. The aluminum really looked like crud in a short time. And the chrome handle rusted too. I know that's not the big picture but it bugged me to see a nice vacuum look like junk in a few months. I've owned a lot of equipment, and it's all been transported in the back of a van, but that vacuum was one item that seemed to deteriorate faster than most. Aside from the degradation of the appearance and a fair amount of rust, the vacuum performed decently.

Had a Royal and gave it away.

Loved the aggressiveness of the beater bar and think it dug the best out of all the vacuums I've used.

However, the lack of on board tools, unbalanced feel, and having to adjust the wheel/height on every job was just too much for it to be my main vacuum.

I prefer a Proteam 1200XP nowadays since it seems to be bullet proof, easy bag changes, and on board tools (I have to edge) keep it my go-to.

On new carpet install and/or new construction, I use a Sanitare with a shake out bag. I also keep about 3-4 belts around the handle at all times.

I still like and use the Royal a lot.
It's so light, wide (I have both but use the 18"), and simple. There's not a lot that can go wrong.

If I HAD to complain it would be that I get things caught in the belt sometimes. The belt is pretty wide and sits in the middle of the beater bar. This always happens in a filthy apartment where there are just too many pieces to pick up by hand. A penny or bobby pin or thumbtack are the things that give me trouble.

I had a rear wheel pop off too but it hasn't been a nagging problem yet.

Decently?

What os your top choice Rick?

I like the Proteam uprights. Proteam is a "clean" vacuum - HEPA rated. Whereas the Royal was a fairly "dirty" vacuum. I liked the way the Royal vacuumed. It did a good job. The wheel adjustment was kind of a pain as I recall (like I said, it's been a few years so I don't remember it like it was yesterday). I feel that the Protean products are very good - they're as good or better than any other top end commercial vacuum on the market today. Yet their prices are lower than Windsor, Lindhaus, etc. Plus their Backpack vacs are the best in the industry. So for my money, Proteam has the market for commercial vacuums right now.

P.S. We've sold several of their 1500 models. We've only gotten positive feedback on them! The newer Progen model looks good too, however we haven't sold many of them yet.

I like a lot of things about the Proteam but as mentioned, the short bristles and or auto adjust pile height setting AND the way too short hose are real bummers.

I've used Royals for the past twelve-plus years. Also a couple Sanitairs.

Picked up a Bissell Cleanview recently to try. DANG!! That canister fills quick! Picks up more than the Royal or Sanitair. But it should be considered a disposable vac. Do any durable/ professional vacs pick up as much as the disposable Bissell?

Are you sure it does or is it that all the fluff in the cup looks to be more than whats packed down in a bag?

You could be right. I wondered about that. But the Bissell seems to capture more fine particulate, maybe because of a more thorough filtration system.

I'll get another Royal or a dirt-cup Sanitaire when I get around to it.

Like the Sanitaire, I could never seem to get the Royal adjusted to the right height.

At least you don't have to bend over to adjust the Royal.

I took the beater bar out of the Sanitaire and just use it for hard surface. So I don't have to worry about belts, they were a PITA.

Just use the Royal for commercial.

Can't beat a Kirby. I keep two on the van. One for pets and vacants. Didn't like bringing a vac smelling like dog into non-pet homes.
