seam tape browning?

This has probably been discussed before and I'm almost ashamed that I don't know the answer already but here goes. Does seam tape cause cellulosic browning on white carpet when it gets soaked? I have a custom rug from a flood that turned yellow at the seams. I got it out but it just seems stupid that seam tape could do that.

I've seen OLD tape brown the carpet like that before. And for some reason animals like to pee on that old stuff too.
