Self-Serving Advisory for Les Judson

When I went shopping for my 1st truckmount, the thing that annoyed me most about salesman was that they typically would spend too much time telling me what was wrong with the other guys equipment and not enough on why I should invest in theirs

Butler never did that

I spoke with 5 guys that owned Butlers before I visited their plant... each guy was a raving fan of the Butler

again, I never heard a negative uttered from Butler sales rep about the competition

In fact, my Butler Rep praised the company ( Bane Clene ) that I was doing business with at the time.

Fred,
I totally agree with you.
Judson has never said one negative thing about one of our competitor's units.

If you are referring to my service advisories, that extends the life of my competitor's units, as being self serving.
I just don't get it!

I have customer's that have close to $30,000 in their truckmount and most of them are heat exchangers.
They bring them to me, to improve the reliability and convert to more common parts that can be found local.
But the biggest thing that I do with unit's is improve the heat performance to maintain 240 degree's on a high flow system.

I am offering this service to give an option to carpet cleaner's other than take a loss on the unit they have.

I know how much time Les spends each and every day helping out broke dicks with broken down truckmounts that are NOT his machines.

To insinuate that he is classless with his Advisories is a clueless and rude accusation.

I don't own a judson unit, but I have called Les at work and home for advice on where to get parts for my Prochem built Century 400 machine. How self serving of Les to help me. Damn him, helping others.......

I am a newer member here and this will only be my third post. I do visit this site nearly every day however.

I have been VERY impressed by all of Les' posts. When our company expands to another truck, I fully expect to put a Judon unit in it. I have a PowerClean unit now and so far it has been great, so this is not a knock on their units.

I just cannot understand the hate on this board sometimes!

Thanks, Chris

I like the advisorys. At first I did take them as a "dig" on competitors units. But I realized that they could really help out. Plus they are interesting. I dont think les has any negative intentions.

"Good guys" make mistakes too. It was perhaps a mistake for Les to seem to critique Butler in the way he did.

If he'd have identified the model pictured and not framed his post as a "Techical bulletin" for ALL Butler owners it wouldn't have been perceived as a slam on a competitor.

Our Butler was made in 1985, and I wouldn't have been surprised at some corrosion. However it ran strong until the van it was part of rusted to death.

Welcome Chris! We're glad to have you here.

I attempt to say out of debates with people who are fellow suppliers (competitors), but I'm concerned about anyone who thinks that "hate" is involved here.

One of the strengths of Mikeysboard is the fact that individuals, both cleaners and suppliers, are allowed to speak their minds freely. You'll sometimes see some fairly strong statements made, but except in some rare cases, I doubt that they are hateful. More often anger, or debate, and even in those cases its a result of misunderstandings.

I don't know Les Jones; I do have the honor of knowing his father. From his position, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that his postings were meant to be helpful. His customers find his reputation to be blameless, and I would consider them to be the best judge of his character.

I DO know Ken Snow and Fred Boyle. You'd not meet two more different men, other than the fact that they are men of principle, and who feel free to speak their minds here, as did you with your thoughts, and as I am now.

That's the strength of Mikeysboard.

Strong opinions? Yes. Healthy (if not always tactful) debate? You bet.

But I don't think you'll see true hate very much, if it all Chris.

Again, welcome!

I agree with Lee~ my appologies that my response got so negative. I too think it was a mistake, a little tacky without more detail maybe, but classless was too strong a term.

I have learned that the flav of the month in Mikey'sworld (not to be confused with the real world) is untouchable and can do no wrong, while the next month they may be the most reviled person/supplier in the industry.

In my post I gave a low cost and simple way to test the vacuum system. I think anyone with any TruckMount needs to do this even a judson.

If you own a Butler and would like to check to see if you have an issue like this, go to the auto parts store and get a pocket thermometer. Drill a very tiny hole in the pipe leaving your blower. Insert the thermometer in the hole, start the unit, allow it to run for about 10 minutes to come up to operating temperature. Your blower exhaust temperature should not be over 275 degrees. If you are experiencing excess temperature, you now have a remedy for that problem.

Ken I think the reason for that is we have a right here to expect people especially suppliers to do what they say they are going to do and products to work as they are claimed to.

But as Mike said, most of the members of this board are a forgiving bunch and will also help a supplier where we can to get them out of a predicament, especially if they are as open and forthcoming of information about their problems.
