Worked a flood at my church last week. The whole alter area in front was ankle deep. Extracted of course and dried and treated the whole week in time for big church event Friday. Yesterday, my pastor expressed his gratitude from the pulpit, for me shampooing the carpet. For the most part, customers don’t know or care what you do, just fix it

Consumers do use that term very broadly. Any cleaning is having the carpets "Shampooed ".

Generally only heard it used by older folks

when I heard,
"I need my carpets shampooed and davenport cleaned"

It's was almost always an Ole Bird.
Often in a home with lots of nick-knack stuff on top of all kinds of furniture stuff large and small
..AND of course the smell mothballs in the bed rm closets and cedar chest/bench
