6X9, owner has never had it clean in 30 yrs. The cat puked on one spot and his wife said she
blotted and rinse with water only. It is an insurance job and I need help with value so I can price the job accordingly. The fibers are as stiff as a board on the area where she worked on it.
Any ideas on cleaning are also welcome.
Thank You for your replies. Luis

Don't touch it Luis. Guaranteed you'll mess it up if you don't have a plant AND experience with silk.

Pick it up and take it to the best rug WASHER in the area and let them do it, charge an extra 10 or 20% for your hassle and tack on a pick up and deliver fee as well.

30yrs?? Obviously they don't really care about clean.

I'd reffer it to a rug plant.

I know that I should not touch it. That is why I need to know the value. and be able to justify my mark up for the drive to San Diego and have Lisa clean it.

I can't tell if it's silk or rayon from the pic size is not a good indication of silk or cotton . It appears to be Sino (chinese) Persian rug some of these are silk some are a mixture of silk and rayon and some are rayon. often rayon rubs are on cotton foundations but silk warps are sewn on the ends if you see this it's always a cotton/rayon rug.

looks like nap distortion, you could try rug shampoo by hand and lay the pile down gently ..NO scrubbing! if you have no clue what i'm talking about take to someone else as stated above!

It is definitely cleanable, but for someone who has cleaned a rug like this before and is comfortable doing it. Someone who can handle rayon/mercerized cotton, colors bleeding, etc.

Better to get someone to clean it AND let you watch and learn.

Most important steps are Pre-inspection and fiber ID.

Be nice to collect 25% for saving the rug ... also, I always thought insurance didnt cover domestic animal accidents .. insurance companies should consider neglect and expect their clients to maintain items with a preventative maintenance program otherwise it would void any claims

Luis, I will be on a job at that time. Call me and we can work something out on delivery, or I can maybe meet you somewhere and pick it up from you.
