Need to change spark plug wires on my 27hp kohler command. How hard or how easy is it?

At first start in the mornings, engine sometimes behave as if not enough gas is being fed at full throttle. Purs like a kitten at half way. Takes about 10-15 minutes before it smoothes itself out especially on damp weather days. On dry sunny days, starts right up runs like a champ
Other days, starts right up with no problems with a sputter here and there but smoothes itself out and runs fine.

✔changed spark plugs
✔Air filter clean
✔Oil level descent

Im thinking might be wires needing changing. Never changed them at all.
hopefully nothing going on with carburetor.

some helpful advice might help me solve the issue without going to the local crap shops in my area.

I believe in the 27hp command the spark plug wires are molded into the coil so you would need to remove the front cover and replace each coil.
You will need a little bit of mechanical ability to get the coils mounted and gaped correctly.

as Kev mentioned, plug wire is integral to coil

Start the thing up ramp if up as much as possible.. When it starts to stutter... shut it down pull the plugs and see if the plugs are wet if the plugs are wet then that means it's not firing if it's not firing you probably lost the coil which is attached to the spark plug wires Once you pull one of these off whenever you put it back on take 2 business cards and make sure you put them between the coil and the stator so that it has the proper alignment 2 business card thicknesses is about where it needs to be

thanks for the suggestions. Will try them all. I do have mechanical hands to an extent General stuff. I dont like allowing anyone to mess with my money maker...know what I mean?!?!!

May be a cracked coil. I had the same problem a few years ago. Went from intermittent to just running on one cylinder. Replaced both coils and it was fine

The hardest part is taking the engine cover off. Take a pic of each coil magnito orientation before you remove.

Test the 2 cards thickness under the coil before removing. Each plug is built into the coil magnito.

There is magnets on the flywheel. As it spins past each coil magnito it creates the energy to fire the spark plug.

You must put them the right distance from the flywheel like Jim mentioned.

Any decent mower shop should have them in stock. Have your model number and Alex number available when you call parts shop.

Do them one at a time. That way you have one to look at and compare.

One other thing on the list of stuff to check might be to check for a crack or hole in the fuel line mostly where it comes through the floor. Had that happen once or twice in my old worn out 15 year old rig.

you know Jim, I thought about that a few times and wondered if that line maybe compromised below the floor like you mentioned. I have noticed less to almost no gas inside the filter. hmmmm. That may explain the choke like sputtering.
Will check tomorrow And report back.
