Stretching/repair tool question-Hot knife

Our stretching/repair technician asked me this morning about using the hot knife to help with cutting and seaming. I know some people don't bother with this, but it does make for much cleaner repairs and patches.

If you do use one of these, I'm looking for suggestions on a good brand or model. Thanks!

Hello, are you referring to openning up an existing seam or making a new seam? We use diff row finders and cushion back cutter to make new seams in order to row cut the carpet. To open up Seams we use a heat gun and or a Hyde hook knife.

Theoretically, it could be used for both, no?
