Anyone have any great ideas for removing a tea stain from white nylon loop carpet? Customer cleaned with folex and whatever. We treated with tannin remover, rinsed with neutral cleaner and sprayed with 2 part am/hy solution. About 50 percent improvement only. Heading back today to try again

I will typically spray Pros Choice USR and just let it work overnight, and if it comes back (it usually doesn't) I will take a damp towel, transfer the excess and res pray and walk away and that always does the trick.

Did you leave the peroxide to work over night?

How old is the carpet?

How about leaving peroxide on night overnight under some plastic?
Just using the peroxide based product similar to stain magic. It evaporates off in about 4 hours. Considering using 40 vol by itself. What do you think?

So, I have never understood why anyone would use the 40 vol and dilute it or any product that is designed for hair rather than something that needs no dilution and is designed for carpet.
Can you guys tell me why its worth the hassle of using the hair products?

Actually, I agree with Kellie in principal, I just seem to see a lot guys on mb using 40 vol. I just finished the job and the stain is now gone with a second spray of our 2 part am/hy eliminate product. There was only a faint ring remaining and It disappeared as soon as I sprayed it. I buy the 2 part solution by the gallon and mix it on the job. 1 gallon of peroxide, 1 gallon ammonia. Is the peroxide part same as 40 vol from beauty supply?

I would use Stain Magic on the spot and like Mike said, cover it with plastic to keep it damp over night.

As far as mixing your own, I would suggest dumpster diving for remnants and experimenting at home.

So is 40 vol cheaper than USR or the others? I'm asking because I've never tried it due to the fact that USR is 20 bucks a gallon and has always worked and doesn't require a trip to a store I normally never go to. But if it's cheaper and foolproof I may check it out.
Or is it just something to use in a pinch when you live far from a supply house?

I can buy a gallon from a carpet supplier of 35% for 20 bucks. There is a difference between peroxide based products labeled by weight or by volumne. The stuff your buying at Sally's equates to 12%. Kelly, I like to buy it separate because besides saving me a ton of money I can vary the strength for the need. As far as removing tea from white I wouldn't worry about discoloring it. Tea is a tough stain that's why they use it to makes rugs looked antiqued.

I put some 30 v creme on tan wtw wool carpet pet stains and walked away. Went back a week later while doing the neighbors and it was perfect. Not a spot or discoloration anywhere. Did about 10 spots.

For those of you Wondering percentage of peroxide vs Volume conversion

Conversion of Peroxide Volume
Q: Could you please tell me the volume of developers converted into the percentages of peroxide (eg 3% = 10vol)?

A: The easiest way to help you understand the conversions of peroxide volume to actual percentages is to explain how the process of peroxide works. When peroxide breaks down during chemical processing, it releases oxygen in specific amounts according to the strength of the peroxide in the solution.

For every 1% of peroxide in a reaction, 3.3 volumes of oxygen are released. So, if the solution of peroxide contains 3% hydrogen peroxide, its chemical decomposition will release 9.9 volumes of oxygen. We round this number up to 10.

Knowing this, we can convert the other standard developer strengths to their measure of peroxide percentages by simple division. Take the volume of the developer, and divide by 3.3. The result will give you the percentage of hydrogen peroxide in the developer.

For instance: 30-volume developer has 9.09% hydrogen peroxide in its solution. (40-volume = 12.12%; 20-volume = 6.06%; etc.) The formula for conversion does require some rounding off of the resulting numbers, but it gives you enough knowledge with which to work.

Interesting..I never knew they did that with rugs and tea! So, I can see how it would be a good thing to be able to mix it to the strength you want. That is a good point.
