The last so called "Advanced school" I went to started out with "Burn testing"
I wanted to walk out the door. I was there to learn something new, not something that was covered in the previous 12 schools I had been to.

I was lucky enough to attend Jim's seminar at Mikeyfest in Nashville a few years back and picked up lots of great information in just the short 30-minutes or the hour the seminar length was. I cleaned upholstery exclusively for over 10-years thought I knew it all. :redface:

I'd even attend Jim's upholstery cleaning in the past but Jim had new tips, techniques and info. :yoda:

So if you attended Jim's class and didn't learn anything........you've got to be just damn ignorant.

Not saying you are but if you actually went to Pemberton's and didn't learn anything........you just might be.

Kevin and I haven't seen each other since those great TRSCA shows at Seven Springs, and the one time I visited him and Jim Potter when I still had all my hair....I had a Prochem 150 so I'm guessing it had to be the early 80's...do you remember Kevin? You had a Hydracat at the time.

Your comments are well taken. I confess part of my class DOES review a new way to approach the burn test, but most of that kind of stuff is done by prestudy, and I concentrate on getting trashed things cleaner, dealing with new fabric problems (like flame retardant discoloration), and a great deal on stain removal and odor removal.

As much as I thought it was important in the past, today its less about dealing with the one potential bleeder you get every year or so, and more about fixing everyday problems that the customers dump on us and making sure we don't own them later.

Hello Jim, had I known this was your class I would have kept my big mouth shut.
I was just speaking of general "advanced" classes both carpet and upholstery where the first hour is some of the most basic information that has been gone over and over.

I've been to Jim's classes and mini seminars in the past and he is one of the best, well respected trainers in the industry and my comment was in no way a negative against him.
Even after 34 years of cleaning, a lot of those years running a dedicated upholstery only cleaning truck, Jim has probably forgotten more than I have learned.

And yes Jim, I remember the old days. Whiskers yes, but hair? are you sure?

I love cleaning upholstery and I also agree with what both Kevin & Richard have said in regards to many "upholstery cleaning courses".

Most I have been to have been a front to sell a certain suppliers line of chemicals, (depending on who the instructor was), and re-hash the same old information but in a different way.

Jim, please come down under to Australia and put on a few courses, heck, I'd even travel down to the big smoke to attend a course of your's.

I didn't take it personally Kevin, in fact it's just the concern you and others expressed that made me retool this class like I did. In due respect to the IICRC (whose classes I still sponsor, to be clear), I had to take certification requirements and testing out of the class to make it what I wanted it to be.

Yes, I'm afraid I'm thin enough on top to spray sunblock on the top of my head and it works, lol.

Jim, I'm not on boards very often but am interested in your Fabric Pro Course, I have several technicians that i would like to send. Is this a road show or do we need to come to you. As you well know I've always respected your opinion and value your expertise and advise. I've used many of your suggestions to build our cleaning systems and still use many of the products you suggested years ago.

One of these days I will treat myself to attend Jim's class.
I took a few of the other expert upholstery cleaning classes and they were very good. However I'd love to learn more and Who's better to learn from than Jim?

I took Murray Cremer's class twice and Walley Webers and Jim's IICRC class years ago. But like I said Jim had so many tips and techniques in a very abbreviated period they I too would like to attend the full program.

Jim is an excellent trainer, very polished and really cares that you receive what you came for. :icon_cool:
