As you can imagine the established cleaners here in the CV are wondering who the hell I am at this point.

Today I had a job out at Kirkwood Ski Resort..

the drive out..

Anyhow, this ski bum who lives there with about 30 other bums all year long, found me on the FB and put off having me out all summer. I guess he was waiting for a rainy day.

Easy job, 3 rooms/2 units Olefin Berber needing just some CRB'n and the SS12 powered by Saiger Green.

When he first gave me the tour of the building we both laughed when we came across a set of carpet cleaning hoses running up and over a hall and landing. Come to find out they were connected to a van running in the under ground parking. The monoxide spewing van belonged to a two trucker up in Tahoe who's been around 20 plus years. The customer and I both expressed our concern with the fumes filling up the garage. He says it happens all the time, especially with cars warming up their engines in the dead of winter.

So anyhow as I move my gear to the second unit I close a hall landing door that in a few minutes I catch the other cleaner peaking through it's window at me as he is measuring the hall way. I keep about my biz as its raining hard and I want to get out of there before the mud gets too deep for the Transit.

30 minutes later while I'm wrapping and chatting it up with the customer in the hall way when the kid with the measuring wheel shows up again. I guess he though I didn't see him the first time so it's another attempt to interact with the mystery man.
The three of us joke about just eyeballing the halls but no real interaction. He then goes through the same door to the landing. I can see him through the window measuring the landing real slowly so I cave in and go through to talk shop with him.

"Whats up bud, looks like you got a long day ahead of yourself.."

"Oh yeah, hey that that is way cool" as he points at the SS12..

"The wand?"

"No that glider thing on it, I bet that makes it easier to use, right?"

lol, I turn my geek on..

"Oh you bet, not only does it make it easier to perform dry strokes but by narrowing the vacuum slots your get increased velocity as well. Keep in mind you wont be able to scrub the soil out with just your wand lips so you'll need to use something like that (I point at the CRB) to agitate the soil loose."

"Ahh.. Yeah.. our owner Paul wont give us those because he says we'll go too fast. But we do scrub the carpet, we have those rake brushes. and we spray that shit (as he points at my HydroForce) on the traffic areas" as he rolls his eyes..

I tell him to pick up the SS12, "You wont believe how light it is..."

"Oh wow!! He gives us these clunky ass steel wands...."

"I've been cleaning for 30 years and have lots of wands but this is my current favorite."

"30 Years!!!, dang..

"Hey btw, be real careful running your van in garages, quite a few carpet cleaners drop dead doing that. I know thats a big garage down there, just don't ever do that in a home garage to stay dry or warm. You'll never feel it coming."

"My boss warns us about that all the time.."

He's quite for a while then, "Sometimes this job really sucks and sometimes it's such easy money..."

Tell me about it kid...

some see you arounds and good lucks and so longs..

I may have to steal him next year.

Nice drive home after a monster burrito in South Shore..

Usually at those dist bbq's all of the locals point and stare at me. I usually wear tight 70's style shorts and some velcro white tennis shoes. They huddle around my van and I show them my POS 16 inch castex wand. They are amazed and ask me where I bought it. They question the Zep purple degreaser jug and Odoban deo in qt squirt bottles. They ask is that all of the chems I use. I tell them that's all they I need.
