As you may have heard, Ruth Travis, Jeff Bishop and Jo Dobbins have been removed from the BOD of the IICRC.

Who would YOU like to see replace them?
What honest, level headed take charge types could you picture leading this wondrous industry of ours into the future?

I would do it but I say **** too much so I'll nominate O'Halick, Pemberton and Martin Sutley.

You get a Multi Trucker with association experience and excellent business skills and cleaning knowledge. With Jim you get history, pride and determination to seeing in the IICRC mature back into what it could have been and with Merty you get brutal honesty and the broke dick point of view that just can't be bought or imagined.

And let Lisa Smith in there too to bitch slap them back into reality if and when their heads or travel budgets get to big.

To be fair:

Ms Travis completed her term as President, and did not run for re-election by choice.

The IICRC voted in some new board members, which left others to move on. The new Certification Council Chairmanship is being held by Barry Costa, which was Mr. Dobbins previous position.

Jeff Bishop's contract as Technical Adviser was not renewed.

Despite what some might think, the IICRC does have a democratic process. The new officers are men and women that I have confidence in, and that will welcome input and help.

Since my seat on the board is as a representative of my father, who is one of three remaining private IICRC shareholders, I do not represent any specific association.
I try, instead, to represent those who have no representative, which includes many of you.

My presence here continues to be for me to gain better insight into the daily concerns and wishes of people who are not otherwise heard.

PM or call me with feedback, suggestions, and even rants and complaints. I've got big shoulders.

KoKo Karpet Klown is available and ready to serve.

His van down by the river is in forclosure and he needs the iicrc for his retirement fund.

Its time to close down the corupt org and start a new one.

Rename it and reorganize it from the ground up.

WOW!

I didn't think I'd live to see that change in regime.

Congratulations to the IICRC board for having the fortitude to do what was needed.

Thank you Jim, for all the hard work you've done for all of us!

Thanks to all the others that have helped to bring about change but remain behind the scenes!

I'd agree with Richard. Interesting developments.
I would add that while it is nice to these changes it would be better if some form of term limits were imposed to ensure that new blood in that org is a constant.

wow!

I think the majority of the rank and file cleaners don't fully grasp how big of a deal this is.

Frankly I didn't think such an announcement would ever happen, it's on line with finding out a Libertarian just got elected for President of the US.

Bring on the change....there is hope yet for the IICRC.

Concerning Ruth, she had her new job prior to the end of her term as president. She now heads WoolSafe of North America.

There has been a defacto term limit for IICRC presidents for some time. Two terms and out.

He cabinet was planning on staying on though

Jim's response shows what's needed:
- Heard a rumor? Get the straight story.
- Ask a question, get an answer.

Transparency.

Next thing ya know, someone will be asking for a full financial audit of Connections. How dare we ask for transparancy.

I think there should be someone or some organization of people to create goals for the IICRC as in what we would like to see happen with the organization. Without support or demands by the customers which are us....it's hard for them to figure out what they need to do to make things better. If they are willing to listen I think we should come together and in some way to figure out what we want from the IICRC.

It's just like politics, 5% will decide the actions of the rest...Complacency and Apathy are diseases.

Tim P and anyone else:

Post whatever you would like to see right here.

Please remember though that the IICRC is a certifying body that is also involved in the writing of standards, not a trade association; also know that I am only one of twenty five people of different perspectives.

If you have things that you want from an association, let your association (if you belong to one) know. If you don't belong to an association, tell me.

I am going to a special meeting of several of the trade associations in November. This meeting has nothing to do with the IICRC, by the way.

There are a great deal of important issues being discussed, but none more important than what each of you care about yourselves.

Post, PM, email, or call me.

I may be prejuidiced (OK, I admit it- I am) but this industry could do a lot worse than Big Billy Yeadon helping out. Bill is older than even he likes to admit and his entire life has been spent in sooo many different areas of this business. He is the least pretentious person I have ever met, has a very good grasp of human nature and I believe truly wants the best for this great but much abused industry. Bill has no secret agendas that I know of other than reading every book on marketing ever written, visiting every Starbucks on the planet and consuming barrels of Guiness beer.

Island Boy
The better half of the Jon-Don Bobbsey Twins (Younger, taller but not as smart)

PS Wait a minute. Bill is a good friend of mine. I want to withdraw the nomination! Can't do it to a friend. In fact, while I admire Jim's willingness to serve I can't help but question his sanity. :)

Yeah, those pics are creepy.

What changes do you see coming now that there are new people in those positions? How will it benefit us?

Same here, Paul. I wasn't going to renew, but I think I may now.

I for one would like to see classes more focused on hands on training. And not focused on teaching a test. Also a test that a 10 yr old could not pass. Make it so that if you become certified that it really means something....I'd say there should be a test that you take to see how well you are able to clean carpet and if you understand the fundamentals of actually cleaning cause we clean carpet for a living and don't take multiple choice tests for a living.

For instance with tile and stone....actually learn to do things like color seal...hands on actually cleaning of tile required. Us cleaners aren't known for classroom learning we learn better by doing things and being taught. Just an idea of what I'm thinking.

I'm sure others have some ideas.

Good points Tim.

Among the things that we are looking at:

Science and fact based information through computer based training and testing, then final certification after more interactive and hands on type training. It would be an ideal way for trade associations to become an integral part of training, as they once were. Supply organizations could continue to be of help as well, as they have been.

We've been looking at some new ways to construct tests and training to more closely reach the students' practical needs until that time. Barry Costa is at the forefront of these plans.

Oh, and points noted on hands on and color sealing. I agree!

I personally could pass those tests all day long....hell I have 6 certifications already and after doing the first one I stopped studying cause it was so easy. Of those I wish I only took 4 of the classes. Although having taken WRT it's nice to know what I learned even for cleaning. However most of the guys out there have a hard time learning by lecture where it's not as bad for me.

I'm glad thing things like you say are being looked at. Barry is definitely one of the best instructors out there. I'm glad he's got his hands in it. I just hope something that it works out. Take for instance the video of the guy "amazing carpet cleaner" or whatever the name was. He shouldn't have a certification....and if he did he should be stripped of it.

what I would like to see is awareness for my customers. I would like my customers to know who and what the IICRC is.

I would like the people you call when you can't get your test results in 8-10 weeks not to be asses to us or just run the test through a scanner at the testing facility and let you know then, this is 2008. Without much hands on in any of the classes they should just go computerized.
