anyone thinking about what kinna heat to put in a shop....
look no further....get an
infrared tube and hang it on the back wall
cents per day to make you put little umbrellas on yor beers......
That would be pretty sweet but I think the need for a bigger forced air unit is needed for recovery heat when opening and closing the door in sub zero temps.

I've been looking high and low for my box of extension cords that I use every Winter. My Wife just now told me that she put it in the storage unit a few days ago.:hopeless:

infrared heats the objects in your shop...not the air
so any air/heat lost would be insignificant.....
Exactly what my plumbing and gas fitting guy told me. Gas radiant heating is the way to go. It radiates heat, and warms the objects in the shop, and that way, when you open the overhead door in the winter, the objects radiate heat back into the air. Forced air only heats the air, and has to re-warm that same air. That’s why I’m going that route for my new shop.

can't remember Brian......it's got the small burner at one end and you can use as many sections as you need....i know the tube has a special coating that radiates the heat...i knew a dumbass that scraped this coating off and his heater was useless

Good suggestion Bob!! I am putting in an auxiliary garage in at home and want to use it as a work shop. Any suggestions on brands?

Well l moved outts my big shop and sold that 40 ft setup...let the whole thing go for 300 bucks...but I paid about 900 hunnert but used it for 15 years....

NOW ....I have a Dayton .....90.000 BTU......way too big for my shop...but i found it BRAND NEW unopened box on Craigslist for 100 bucks...i HAD to buy it ....i wired it to a thermostat
i highly advise NOT to get one this big...a 30 K BTU would be sufficient in most cases

HOWEVER the tube kind is way better

OHH YEA....you'll need to run a gas line to the building....30" deep

My butler will be parked in our non heated garage. The walls are very well insulated and I don't think we ever measured a temp below freezing in it, however I don't want to take a chance.

  1. Is there a switch that I can set to start a heater once the temp drops below, say 33 degrees?
  2. Will portable infra red heater, such as the link below, left inside the van do? https://www.homedepot.com/p/Dr-Infrared-Heater-Original-1500-Watt-Infrared-Portable-Space-Heater-with-Dual-Heating-System-DR968/205625429?cm_mmc=Shopping|G|Base|D27E|27-23_PORTABLE_HEATING|NA|PLA|71700000034238966|58700003946879293|92700031953708174&gclid=Cj0KCQjw3KzdBRDWARIsAIJ8TMQt6kiMVwppgvCGyUWJuI8c95WsgBNr_W27Xtyo7R-fZLQpBwVvvosaAqXcEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CK_4mb-Q2t0CFcb0ZAodOTAP0g

I found it you place a heater INSIDE a van and it gets to freeze pt outside.....
You accumulate ice on the inside of your windshield....
Then the pressure gauge is the first to go

Then the Dywers meter goes next

Should be fine. The switch you are looking for is the thermostat on the fan. Set it around halfway and it should go on and off periodically.

The lower setting of the built in thermostat in the heater is about 58, which is too high, as I am not trying to keep the van comfy. Just above freezing in case it dips below. So it won't work without another thermostat.

I need a portable thermostat, that I will keep inside the van that I can plug the heater into and I was wondering if someone can recommend one that is dependable and can also handle the heater's load.

Lightbulbs at the key spots on the unit
Under if possible.

Just get an electronic thermometer that warns you when it dips under 35 or so. Then turn on a heater for a little while.

I like keeping my van about 50 anyway. Starting out cold when its cold out can allow things to freeze on the way to a job.
