I did a sofa/ love seat for a new customer last week. She was very happy with the results, and texted me a thank you. Until yesterday she phoned me and asked what I had used to clean the upholstery. I replied Procyon. She then told me her daughter had started breaking out in hives whenever she sat on the sofa. I was flabbergasted. I told her that this was probably the safest cleaning agent I could use and directed her to their website. In the meantime, I called the folks at Procyon and they answered all my questions. They also took the time to call her and assure her that the possibility of a reaction to the Procyon was highly unlikely. I'm going back and rinse the fabric with clear water to put her mind at ease.
The cushions are down filled and I suggested that may be the source of the problem, but I'm no allergist or doctor. Anyhow - a thanks to the staff at Procyon for making the time to help with this with no delay, they're not here, I'll get back to you or other codswallop. Good people and good products.

That makes no sense. I think rinsing it should work to help them though

Makes no sense to me either, but I'll do the rinse to cover my bases. I talked to the lady last night and she seemed to be a lot more at ease and was thinking it might be the down that's causing the reaction. Kudos to procyon though for stepping up instead of sweeping it under the rug or using delay tactics like I've gotten from other manufacturers in the past.

I had the same thing happen about 25 yrs ago I cleaned the sofa and they loved it. Then two days later same problem. Well it took a lot of questions and the husband said they cover the sofa with sheets when they sit on it at night. OH and the sit on it nude? yes they do. Well with more questions she had just changed brands of laundry products. SO it was not the fault of the dumb guy that did the cleaning, but was the laundry product. They had called the county lic. dept to make the complaint about me. The next year they called again for more work, but I said I was booked out for 6 weeks. So now another lucky guy was in the barrel and not me, jz.

It is amazing some of the chemical combinations some of these guys use to clean with. I''m not a chemist and I know mixing things can get you into trouble. My buddy and I used to clean the theater we worked at when we were teenagers. We would mix Pine Sol and Bleach together to clean with until we stated to not feel well one day. Perfect place to work if your a teenager though.

So back many years ago due to demand, I supplied our staff with a product called RAAH, a blended solvent to use as a booster on badly soiled traffic areas.

I let them know it was expensive and powerful and to be sure use sparingly. Also to read the label, the label said do not get on skin or in eyes.

They used it for about a month and one of my supervisors came to me to tell me we need to order more. I asked if it worked and he said the tech's loved it.

I walked him over to the sink, filled the empty gallon container with water and told him to put a drop of the blue food dye in and 1 ounce of traffic lane concentrate.

He looked at me and said no really they need some, they are almost out. I said you just made some.

RAAH was a solvent alright, 99% polar solvent. The RAAH stood for Richard's An Ass Hole.

As good as it worked, they never asked for anymore.

Some times it's just too much information. I had one client as I was inspecting the bed room carpet, I inquired about several stains. He looks me straight in the eye and says "my wife is a squirter"

Goes to show you about believing all of the marketing BS to push products to dumass carpet cleaners. Reading the labels like a cereal box of their favorite fruitloops. Giving them superpowers........

Encapsulation BS marketing is an example.

Not that it could not happen.
However, I use Procyon a lot and done so for years. Never had a client have an allergic reaction.
Certainly was good and smart on their part to get involved.

Best advice I ever got on mixing concoctions was from good old Ken Raddon. If you need more just add more of the same product don't go mixing crap. I rarely boost with anything and when I do it's usually peroxide.

NOTHING but Procyon on this. On carpets I use Ultrachem Clean and a squirt of deodorizer.

I doubt the problem is the Procyon. Just because the girl is reacting after the sofa doesn't mean a thing. I once did a job for a lady, (a regular customer to this day) as I was cleaning her carpets, she was cleaning her patio furniture. Then she moved on to cleaning her indoor shelving units. About 6 that evening, I get a call from her saying that her cats are sick and throwing up and she's not feeling well ever since I left. I go back to see what's wrong and discover that the product she was using on her shelves contained bleach and then she cleaned the mirrors with windex with ammonia. She was creating chlorine gas and that was the cause of her and her cats illness. She was a nurse and once I explained what the situation was, she understood immediately and I ended up with a little more money for cleaning up the cat puke.
