If it is the other persons fault, the insurance company might be generous with their offer on the van to avoid litigation.
When my dodge got totaled I was expecting a small amount. I only paid $2k for it and the paid me over $5k.
They also paid me to remove my machine and install it into the next van.

You need to talk with your adjuster or insurance company. Good time for everybody to check exactly what you are covered for. If you want your machinery covered, you need to add it to the value of the van. You can add loss of use and other policies but it all costs money. If you don't want to pay it, you can't collect it when it happens to you. Even if it's not your fault.

Hey Jimmy, that stinks. So sorry to hear your bad news. I hope you get it sorted out quickly! My experience with insurance companies is - you've got to wrestle to receive a pittance. I sure hope you fare better than I usually do!

I feel your pain Jimmy. We had one of our 2014 Butlers rear ended last week. The women that hit us never even touched her brakes. A cop was sitting near there and saw the whole thing.

Thankfully it was a smaller car as all it did was collapse the bumper down and took out the back doors. A new bumper and brackets, 2 used doors from the junk yard and we'll have it painted purple and back on the road by the first of next week. We will do all the work ourselves and will come in $1000 below our deductible.

We have a couple of spare trucks otherwise it would have been a very un-timely accident since we are jammed up booked!!

I don't understand, if it's her fault, why aren't you getting fixed properly at a bodyshop of your choice and have her pay the deductible?

Expediency.

Fix it quick, customers are waiting.

The check from the other driver's insurance company, if it comes, will likely be less than a good day's revenue.

Michigan is a no fault state. It doesn't matter who is at fault, you pay for your own repairs.

And that's the other side of it. We can have it repaired and back in service before the collision shop can even start the work.

so what's the point of having insurance?
If the vehicle had been totaled or stolen or involved in a severe accident we would have used the insurance. Our deductible is $2500 because we are more than capable of repairing damage that comes in below that amount.

Here's a couple of pictures. The new doors should have a primer coat on them by the end of the day and be painted purple tomorrow. The bumper will be replaced tomorrow and the new doors may be ready by Thursday. We won't worry about the signage on the back doors until after the end of the year.

That's a lot of damage. Are you going after the person who caused it at all? Good for you that you can repair it yourself but I would be royally pissed if that happened on one of my trucks. A repair like that here would easily exceed $6,000 if done by a body shop.

Our vans were repaired at a local shop that we got to know very well (3 vans) and the Owner treated us very well. He stocked our paint color a Dodge charcoal gray, and made us a priority. We kept an open account there. the damage was almost always the same...left rear corner....so fix bumper pull or bondo the corner dent, spray and go.
The one time I didn't get the van right in after it was damaged, I took it to service a wealthy Client in Montecito- very wealthy area of Santa Barbara- and the Owner noticed as we were driving away. She was worried what her neighbors would think and we lost her as a Customer.
I never had a van in service after that, that didn't look perfect. Lesson learned.

Trust me, I am not happy about this at all!! There isn't much we can do about it though. Again in Michigan, we are a no-fault state and it doesn't matter who caused the accident.

Doors are prepped and ready for purple paint. I am not sure if we will be painting them later today or tomorrow. The bumper brackets were straightened and the new bumper will arrive and be installed tomorrow. That's one of our retired vans in the background getting prepped for sale. It will be painted back to factory white soon.

I have heard of no fault but don't know how it works. If you cause an accident, does your premium go up?
Basically we get screwed. We pay more than our neighboring states for premiums yet they don't cover much unless you have full coverage. Even then if you use your insurance your premiums go up.

Here we have govt. mandated liability and optional collision and comprehensive that is available either from the govt or private companies. If you have an at fault accident, your premiums go up and you pay the deductible for both parties. I have a 43 percent discount and am paying almost $2000 a year per vehicle.

How do they adjust your premiums in a no fault state? If someone hits you, do your premiums go up too? We punish bad drivers by hiking their insurance premiums. If you have accidents or traffic violations, your premiums go up. If you have a safe driving record, they go down.

Any accidents shit goes up... I've heard the All-State commercials on safe drivers discount, but never seen it.... I believe people also tie there home and cars into the same insurance premiums which supposedly gives you a lower insurance rate but any accident will make it go up...

There should be a basic tax on gas so that any vehicle has basic coverage. If you buy gas you buy insurance easy peasy.

Here we have uninsured motorist coverage as part of our basic (government) policy. All vehicles in BC must be insured but if someone has lapsed on their policy or driving an uninsured vehicle and hits you, your policy will cover your damages and injuries. We bitch and complain about our insurance but all in all, it's pretty good coverage. Just pricey.
