Twas the Night before Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the board
Not a creature was lurking, not even Gord.
The banners were hung at the top with care,
In hopes that some janitor would click and go there.

The rug suckers were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of new tools danced in their heads.
And Les on his head set talking again all night,
Had just added Terje to our nightly Skype.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my desk to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
It looked like a new truckmount but it wasn’t quite clear

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I thought for a moment who are those dicks?
More rapid than an eagle his helpers came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called Danny by name!

"Now Mike! now, Fred! now, Jimmy and Jim!
On, Chris! On, Jeremy ! on, on Jimbo and Lisa!
To the top of the porch! to the end of the hall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

As dry leaves they dragged in with their hoses too,
When they meet with a remark, you’re a week late too.
So up to the living room the crew they flew,
With a handful of spotters, and pre-sprays too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard at the door
The pontification and pronunciation, he’s really not a bore.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Through the door Tony came with a bound.

He was dressed all in leather, from his head to his boots,
And his clothes were all dead animals with scales and snoots.
A bundle of Tools he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a crayon he held tight and out straight,
And the tie it encircled his neck looked like a snake.
He had a thin face and a square little glasses,
He said in haste do sign up for my classes!

He was English and African, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I hear him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And fixed that bleach spot, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, and a big invoice I do suppose!

He sprang to his truck, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all drove like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"
