It's olefin, easy to clean. Rinse it well. You'll do fine.

What if it's wool? What advice would you give?

You can't hurt the olefin rug, but I won't make a blanket statement about wool. However I've taken many wool rugs to the car wash to save time at the shop.

Are you saying I should take the rug to the car wash and rinse it there? And what about your advice on how to treat a room with the same issue? What products do you like and are pleased with?

Unless you have a really good rug setup in your shop you can never get the rug really clean with ANY extractor. Just not enough agitation and flow. Yes you can make it LOOK clean, but it is still dirty.

Case in point: how many on the boards ask about products or procedures to deal with a rug they have "cleaned" but still smells bad? The rug is still dirty.

Why do you need to take a rug to the carwash? I do them all the time right in the driveway with a simple powerwasher wand hooked to the truckmount. Do you take them to the carwash so the customer won't see you hosing them off? Not saying anything's wrong -just wondering.

If you have a 10gpm pump you could do just that. Most TM's wimp out at about 1/3 the flow. Huge difference.

Thanks,

I had to clean a braided rug this week, that reeked of urine.

I put it on the deck (I like using the deck because it drains through like a grate), and soaked it (both sides), then slowly super extracted it (both sides), until I saw no more funky looking stuff in front of the leading edge of the wand on the pull-back stroke.

I used Proliminator Sunshine, and placed a fan on it to start the drying process on a flat horizontal surface (the deck). Then I hung it in the shop on the rug overhead pole, with a fan directed up until it was totally dry.

It looks and smells like new again.

Flush, flush, flush (like a total submersion), and then flush some more. Extract well, pre-dry flat, and then hang it, and dry it with good airflow (fan).

Olefin, wool, cotton,, we throw them in the pit with some skunk out,, roll every hour until it stops forcing any more urine out or until I need to change the water.. Then into the regular wash, extract, groomed and dried. Not rocket science but the soaking and purging really take care of these rate nasty rugs.
