Which model vacuum cleaner do you have on your truck?

I have a Sanitaire sc5845.

Kinda looking for something else that is bagless and more durable. I do like it though.

It just keeps blowing me away how every time the vacuum cleaner question comes up all you so called professional carpet cleaners recommend the cheapest of residential grade junky vacuum cleaners. If all you want to do is make it look like you are vacuuming why don't you just take one of these broken down old junkers and install a loud speaker and tape recorder in were the bag would usually be. This may prove to be more economical from your perspective and you would still be able to provide your client with the wow factor.

Have you tried a comparison Mardie. We vac all the time it is a great Vac. If you want it to look professional you could put an Orange cord on it but I heard JonDon isn't the place to get that done.

Mardie, I'm a long time lurker, seldom poster, but I gotta say...

Several years ago, the "what vacuum do you guys have on your truck?" question came up (as it frequently does), and Mikey took a sound beating over his recommendation of the Bissel Momentum. I went out and bought this vacuum, and was *completely* blown away by how well it cleaned. Yes, it was a total POS vacuum, and Mikey warned everyone that it was. My first one lasted about a year. I bought another one, but unfortunately it's on it's last legs, and I can't seem to find the same model anymore (think it has been discontinued).

It's too bad Bissel couldn't have made that vacuum a bit higher quality... it had some serious cleaning ability.

Who cares about the image of the product used, as long as the results are there? Aren't the results what really matters? Don't dismiss a product out of hand just because you don't see it as a "professional grade" tool.

After having such great results with the Momentum, you can bet I'll be heading to Costco to grab the Shark Navigator Pro that Mikey is recommending. At that price, I don't care if i have to replace it every year. I only care that it does a great job of vacuuming.

Still waiting for a legit answer from Mardie.

There is no legit answer from him...

Until he tries a "cheap junk" and compares it to the so called professional like a sanitaire he will stay clueless:..

I use and go thru 2 per year of the Momentums. I also own the same Costco edition of the navigators but that's for home.

I have been surprised by these two vacuum cleaners how well they remove that fine dust, powder from the carpet.

A sanicrap can't even come close to that because you can't see when to slow down and allow the vac cleaner to pick up the powder.

It's funny though that in vac cleaner terms a cheaper one is right away a junk useless crap but when it comes to the difference in price between a $1500 von Schrader and an $18000 truckmount- it doesn't matter... Right....

Since using the momentum for work, I purchased 14 or 15 that were than dropped off at the customer's house for a bit of profit. They want to buy it when they see how well it works.

Sometimes I buy 3 4 at the time and just hold unto them.

I can't find them, either... At least, the $49 one that worked so well. I see this one http://www.bissell.com/momentum-vacuum/ now, but it looks quite a bit different than the 49 dollar job that cleaned so well. Anyone try the vacuum in that link? Wondering how it compares...

Edit: Thanks for the Fry's link, Zee... So that's the one you've been using? That's quite a bit different from the cheapy Momentum they used to make. If it cleans as well as the old model, I might have to pick one up...

The momentum was never 49dollars...at least not around here. Years ago the cheapest momentum was 79dollars.

It's been a few years, and my memory ain't like it used to be, but it seems like Bissell had several different versions of the Momentum model. I think it was the very cheap 49 buck version that Mikey had the best results with. That's the one I bought. Now I see that they only have one version of the Momentum. Ah well, it's only a hundred bucks and I need a new vacuum. Think I'll give it a try...

The $49 one was the power force. The momentum is better mainly because it doesn't have all the pita filters that clog so fast.

I've got the shark pro something $189 at Walmart. Its for the house. For the van I've got a Sanitaire. I've only had it a few months but i really like it other that changing the belt about every two weeks or so. But the belts are dirt cheap, less than a buck and super easy to change so i can live with it.

Brant, you have either a Bissel Cleanview or Powerforce ...
BTW, I'm the guy that started the Bissel bandwagon 10 (?) years ago...because yes it DOES kick azz.

We used Cleanviews and Powerforces for several years, but have been using Momentums for years now...less filters to clean compared to the Powerforce/Cleanview models ...makes 'em worth the extra $30-40 bukz to me

We still use Bissel's on the van cause a vac in my world gets beat to hell and abused ..It looks like chit in less than a year.
So it gets replaced w/new and the beat up Bissel gets severely abused in sec 8 ratholes ..til it dies

at home I use a Shark Pro...It's a great vac and Joni loves it
had a Navigator before that ..Got three years out of it til the roll brush motor crap'd out

Mardie, if you're concerned about image, you picked the wrong profession
However, if you're concerned about removing dry soil, get a Shark or Momentum
Of the two, the Shark is a better vac ..cause there's not as much dust blow-by, plus the roll brush isn't on when in the upright position .
It's also nearly twice as much though

Yup, you and Joey nailed it.. went back and did some looking around... It was the PowerForce that I got. And yeah, it has a major problem with the filters clogging up fast, causing the suction power to drop off.

Think I'll run to Costco tomorrow and pick up the Shark Pro. Thanks, Gents.

I have that vacuum. I use it as a back up to my Dyson. It is a great vacuum, but it has two faults. It is too top heavy. You have to carry it while edging or it will fall over. Also, the edging tool has a rubber tip on it that has a slot that is too narrow. You can't suck up things like pop corn kernels. They will stop up the slot.

I have never understood why cleaners love to rag on the Dyson. I have owned a Rainbow, a Kerby, several Wall Mart Hoovers, an Oreck, that vacuum Mikey has as his board symble and the Dyson beats all of them. The Shark is the only vacuum that actually vacuums as good as the Dyson.

I have had to put my Dyson in the shop twice in the past two months. The first time was because the roller brush moter burned out. They replaced it no charge and put on a new roller brush while they were at it. A week ago I cut the belt on it while cleaning the brush. I took it to Sears and they replaced the belt for no charge. Even after I specifically told them I cut the belt with a razor knife!

You can't beat that for service.

I guess all you guys like bending down picking shit up by hand so you don't clog up and choke them toys you use to vacuum with. I do a lot of restorative carpet cleaning kinda like the x drug house I just did. You guys with your toy vacuum cleaners would have had to start with a lawn rake where I just went in and plowed it down with a real machine.

unless you're talking a shopvac w/2.5" hose, you have no clue what you're talking about and have obviously not used the two vacs mentioned

www.atrix.com ( Mighty Mouth) With this you can feel the vibration on the floor and see the dirt jumping on the carpet in front of the machine. I use a back pack with dual vacuum motor for edging. I put a crevice tool on a wand for edging.

Oh please....you don't know how much stuff comes up if you don't see it..
With the Momentums and the Navigators we can easily pick up large debris. I'm not sure what Marty was saying about not being able to pick up..There is absolutely no problem pulling off the hose and go around edges sucking up junk..

No upright vacuum cleaner with any type of hose passage for debri not even a 2.5 inch shop vac hose will take in the crap this machine will without getting plugged up. Also great for post construction clean up. The brush feeds crap directly into the bag. The bag opening is the full width of the brush. As far as crevice tool work goes I got 2 hands on the wand and I go around and physically scrub out all edges. Non of this one hand bend over and give it a quick swipe BS like you do. The crevice tool on a wand also works great on the chunky stuff that is stuck to the carpet. Is that what you wanted to know.

Mardie, for that type of "cleaning" where you need a device that is able to sweep up pencils and other larger pieces laying around , I'm sure you have the right tool.. I'm sure its great for post construction clean up...I'm also sure it cost a lot more to buy one and to furnish it with bags all the time..

But we are not a trash removing company. If we need to pick up larger sized trash it will be an extra charge. We are there to clean the floors not to remove the trash. But we'll do it with a smile if they ask us to.

As far as your device working well in a residential carpet cleaning- I'm not sure about that.. I'm confident a shark or a momentum or a cleartrac will pick up more of the fine dust, powder, dead skin etc.. which is our goal first and foremost, before introducing any moisture.

I have not used the tool you are talking about but have used a very similar one that worked on the same principle.

So I went and bought the white shark from costco today. Got home and tried it out and I liked it..... But it's not going on the truck.... Nope, I'm keeping it for home and my Sanitaire will stay on the truck.
