I cant stand using the on board hose on a upright vacuum for doing the edges. Should I buy a smaller vac for doing the edges or buy a back pac vacuum. What should I get?

If it bothers you less to have to drag in two vacuums the pro team super coach back pack is very quick on edges. The smaller vacs may do fine as well, but I much prefer the added capacity and versatility of the 10 quart. I've tried enough other backpack vacs, the pro team is the way to go IMO.

Waldo, if you don't have a back pack you will appreciate having one for edges and other tasks, too. We have both sizes of Pro Team Super Coach and they are both terrific. I prefer the smaller, lighter model which is also HEPA.

For a 1 man show, I think the vac hose works best. Get the best open area vacuum you're willing to use regularly and hit the edges with your vac hose. I've thought about bringing in my 10 foot whip hose that's 1.5" to do this. It might get into corners better than the 2".

Back packs are hard to beat for edges. Fast, light weigh and with a long cord you can cover a lot of ground.

It doesn't replace your upright though, it just a compliments it.

With all the "must have" equipment discussed here, everybody should have a van + a 20 foot trailer behind, attached to a secondary 12 foot trailer to carry it all.

Unless you run a high efficiency crew where it makes sense, just use the freaking 2" hose.
