I like to pre vacuum the area, I have a bissel commercial vacuum, works good. Have a couple eureka's what the best
No dyson for me but I'd like one
What a good unit to use
I seem to kick the crap out of the ones I do have

for a "throw-a-way" vac, nothing beats a Bissel Momentum...$99 bukz if you shop
Just as good (and half the price) but filter cleaning is a regular and often must, is the Bissel Powerforce .($49 bukz)
Pros...you can abuse the chit out of it sucking up crack pipes, mice, dead bUrds and ju-ju beads
Cons..loud..lots of dust blow-by, hepa filter is a joke

In the buck-fiddy range, the Shark Navigator is hard to beat.
Pros, less blow by..looks a little more professional , great suck
cons; small head, brush roll motor craps out too soon

I agree with Larry about the Shark Navigator.
AND I was once a die-hard Dyson Fan.

To reduce the strain on the motors of all vacuums-- be sure to cut and remove debris wrapped around the brush head and clean and dry any washable filters bi-weekly or monthly.

I only have room for 1 vacuum and I work alone so I use a big 18" all metal Royal.

Its a beast but it's very light for what it is.

No attachments for edging etc so that's it's only real negative.

It was @ $350 at Jon Don

I used my eureka boss with a wet carpet and the next time I used it the brush seized up and smoked the (brand new) belt

Yes it was a well used vacuum and one bearing was toasted and melted the brush side, I ordered a replacement for $15 my great idea, I'll agitate the pretreat into the carpet Fail

I'll agitate the pretreat into the carpet

done that before
(too lazy to carry the rotary to the third floor):icon_redface:

it was a cheap Bissel and disconnected the vac hose.
worked pretty well.
Made a mess of the vac...which I hosed off outside
the $49 Bissel will work..the brush roll is pretty much all plastic

won't last though...you'd be better off looking on Ebay for a light wt Host machine .
Might be able to find one for a couple hundred I'd guess

Looks like I'm making all the same mistakes, seemed like a good idea,
I can remove the hose on the boss (didn't think of that) I got it free but have been adding service parts
I'll look for a deal on the host.

I dont consider it a vacuum cleaner.

That's true..
After "vacuuming" about 1000 sq ft of commercial carpet with the Brush Pro I was excited to see what would be in the collection bins-- It was empty!-- I guess the Janitors do their job.
But I was wishing I had my Shark so I could see if it did a better job.

That thing is killer, the bissel has no hose or crevice tool, it looks like the white one here

sanitaire sc882a Looks like a great price, most of the units here are over $1200, the Home Depot and target units just can't hold up

I remember few months ago there was a video, Someone was using a badger ? I think, it was knocking out the dirt on an upsidedown carpet, I never been able to find info on this. But the prices for what seems like just some sheet Metel and brushes is over $2000. I'm not there yet
