Since the window is mainly to impress customers with the amount of guck passing by, it should be convex to magnify everything.

That's not what the windows for at all. It's to tell the operator when they hit a soap puddle or a urine puddle or a coffee puddle or just plain dirty water or for that matter water at all as most idiots think that one pass get everything out

But I agree a convex lens would be killer at making it easier for us old farts to see what's really going on..
