Water pump over heating?

Ive searched a lot of threads but cant find an answer.

My water pump keeps over heating and shutting off.

I thought maybe for some reason my pump was just continuously running but my water box doesnt overflow when im Not using the wand.
But I went ahead took out the float and shut off valve from my water box and it seems to be in good condition and seems to be closing tight enough.

I cant think of any other reason it would be overheating like this.

Could it the switch on the front of the flo-jet pump? The times that the switch goes bad it just usually makes the entire pump not work. So i wouldnt think it is the switch. Maybe im wrong though

I have blueline champ truckmount. The pump is a relay pump from my fresh tank to my water box. Its a flo-jet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks.

Can the water from the water box backflow to the pump? If the fitting closest to the pump is hot, it is backflowing, put a check valve in so that it can't happen anymore.

Is that something that could just start happening? The machine is 10 years old and the pump isn’t very new either.
I wouldn’t think it could backflow but I will go make sure.
Thanks for the reply.

I didn't think so either. But that was the only reason I could come up with as to the fittings being hot when I finished the Job. I run an 870 it has a pressurized water tank. I think that at the end of the job as I was wrapping things up the water would backflow and the transfer pumps aren't made to handle hot water.

I always carried a new flojet to change out if one failed. Why not buy a new flojet?

Take the hose off the flow jet and see if its pumping water properly. Does the pump have a filter, it could have a partial clog and not pumping enough water to the pump.

I will never again use a transfer pump. Mount the water source well above the pump. Problem solved.

I agree. I've never had a TM with a transfer pump. They pull just fine even with the water tank below the pump. I would remove that sucker and draw straight from the fresh water tank.

Most of the Flojet and Surflo water pumps don't hold up well with the constant on/off cycling and hammering in a mix tank setup.
Installing a accumulator tank helps prolong the life of these type of pumps quite a bit.

Thank you everyone. I’m sorry I wasn’t quick getting back with everyone.
I’ve checked everything and can’t figure anything out. I may just need to replace the pump.
I would love to take the pump out but my water box is kind of high. So I don’t know.

If the pump,is pumping water try changing only the flow switch to see if that works.

As maybe the pump keeps pumping because the flow switch is either defective or broken and not telling pump to shut off thus overheating in just several minutes, it won’t take long if fresh water is not passing through the pump and it starts cavitation and then overheats.
