Weird carpet

I was stretching a room this morning. When I pulled back the carpet I found this:

The carpet under the wall had a black stripe in it. The carpet in the room didn't. And no, it wasn't seamed onto there. It ran the length of the one wall and the black stripe was uniform and dark all the way across like it was dyed that way.

What is the deal here?

Some mills indicate the usable portion of the carpet with dye lines on the edges. It looks like that one just fit.

Yes, agree. The selvedge is very often different on commercial carpet and sometimes on residential carpet. That portion is supposed to be cut-off so prior to installation. The edges sometimes don't get enough adhesive or are otherwise a little irregular.
