Had an old jewish lady tell me she just wasn't happy... white carpet 19 years old with black
marks around walls and registers. She has been a customer for 4 years. I looked at her wrinkled
face and heard her voice and said i'll give you a refund if your not happy. I told here to start with
the marks wern't coming out, she said last time it looked better, I wasn't in the mood to listen to her
another min.done, good ridence. I have to say glad to be rid of her, I can pick who I want as a customer
at this stage of my life.

He also mentioned the customer was a woman, and he mentioned she was old. Wow! Triple discrimination...or was it a description?

Nice observation Al. Either he is an Ageist, Sexist, Racist or just described her.

You never had one as a customer? Walk a day in my shoe's and you would understand.

I am surprised you have not run into that more up there in the North burb's.

Did it feel good to fire that customer? I have yet to do that.

one of the biggest jobs i ever did was a black guys house. His wife liked to fry food a lot and there was thick grease on the carpet leading out of the kitchen.

I'm not kidding. does this make me racist?

I've fired a few custys in my time, Once this lady called me up and said her trashed out carpet didn't look good the next day, I told her to throw it out. It wasn't worth cleaning anyway, She started sceaming at me on the phone, I just hung up. f..k the bitch

Been there, had a Dr.s wife that was just a pain to work for, the guys hated working for her she was just on them from the time they arrived.

I remember cleaning for her and she just made your job harder than it needed to be.

We had been cleaning her house for 30-years, she called complaining to me that every time we cleaned for her it needed to be touched up.

I finally told her that I don't think we can please her and I think it would be in both our best interest if she found another cleaner. She was stunned, she said she has always used us and that we do good work and that why she calls us. (???)

From that day she has backed off and no longer gives the guys fits. I don't know if she just didn't see herself or what?

We don't fire many, hardly any, but she was a first class pain.

Do you feel better now for "warning" the guy as to what to say?

Is your skin really so thin you think his comments may send you overboard?

Do you really believe, even if he did say something negative about jews, it would result in a life changing event for you?

Sounds just like another over-sensitive, better not hurt my feelings post to me.

You don't need to respond.

You have already shown that you try to make something out of nothing and you resort to name calling.

This says enough.

Jews were always a problem in my town. All the ones I knew were filthy rich, and they let you know it. I don't ask what religion people are, but it's quite obvious when you enter a jewish persons house.

I don't know any "poor" or average Jews, just well-to-do ones.

Now one of my best friends is a Jew....an Irish Jew, and he's a prominant Probate Judge in town here. He will go out and party with any and all. He even took in a Snoop Dog show a few weeks ago......

Prequalify, prequalify, prequalify.

"Mam, these areas here, here and here may not clean up very well."

At least in my experience, when they participate in the process it sets reasonable expectations and they'll more or less tell you what they expect.

If it's really questionable you might even want to suggest,

"If you've been thinking about replacing the carpet, putting the money towards new carpet might be a better value than cleaning it."

Usually they just want it cleaned, acknowledge its condition, and thank you for the candor.

"Mam, you wanna come take a look at this and see what you think?"

Most of the time they say, "do the best you can" without so much as a peek.

Maybe I've just always been lucky but it seems like no matter how bad the carpet is, more often than not, they're as happy as they can be because it cleans up better than they expected. But, I think it also helps to get them over the hump before you start rather than after you've finished.

A problem? what kind of a problem? You've got something against rich Jews? I doubt they are much different than rich people in general right?

I have never had any issues with my Jewish clients, or Christian clients, or even the Muslim clients we have (have a couple Christian Persians as clients as well). Even my atheist clients, no issues.

That said, I do discriminate against a-holes. Life is too short to put up with some people.

I think he was refering to jewish as a nationality or ethnicity not as a religon.

Just an observational comment and a question: Why is it wrong to make an observation based on an accepted generalization of an ethnic or religious group and it's wrong and discriminatory but for all of those threatened or insulted to rise up as a group against those making the comments is just fine? Kind of like saying to see them as a group is wrong but for them to unite and respond as a group is righteous?
Al
PS For the record: I don't have any black, Muslim, Jewish, Hispanic, friends but 1 do have 1 friend who is gay. Not by choice but there is just not so much diversity here.

I think he was refering to jewish as a nationality or ethnicity not as a religon.

I have 3 Russian Jewish employees - and 2 former communists - all now US citizens.

If it's religion, nationality, ethnicity, sexual orientation, political affiliation - I don't care. All I care about is do you care about your rugs, and are you nice to be around.

It does matter to me though if you are in the country legally... because all of our employees came here legally, worked hard, paid taxes, and earned their citizenship here.

This thread took on a life of its own. :)
