Today my first job was in a town called Millville on a vacant ranch. Actually the ranch was a working ranch and just the houses on the land were being used as rentals. When I arrived it took me awhile to figure out what house I was supposed to clean. They were all vacant and there was nobody around.

As I was walking around I noticed a very skinny dog locked in a kennel. I walked up to check on him. This poor dog was so happy to see me. It wagged its tail and let me give him head scratches. He was so skinny and his ribs were showing. This dog had been abused. Thinking that the pup might be hungry, I immediately starting looking around for some dog food. I went through all 5 homes. I went through all the garages and cupboards looking for food. The only thing I could find was a granola bar. The dog happily ate it.

While working I saw a ranch hand drive by on a gator. I flagged him down and asked about the dog. I was fully intending on taking this dog home with me. The hand told me that the dog was abandon by the tenants with three other dogs. The other dogs died of starvation. The prior tenant intended to shoot the existing dog. The guy told me his coworker was looking after him and bringing him back to health. Doggy will be going to the vet tomorrow.

I gave the guy my card and told him if the dog isn’t wanted, give me a call and I’ll give him a good home. The pup’s name is Will and he’s about three years old.

Also. You know a place has been vacant a long time when the mice burrow through the paper towels.

The house I cleaned was massive and it came out great.

Good for you doing the right thing there Damon.

May the shorter time you have on earth for eating at Crap n' the Box be rewarded for the good you did that helpless creature.

How can people be so cruel?

I am not sure I could/would have left him... Are you going to follow up with "the guy"?

Yes, I'm pretty sure. The guy was pretty emotional about the dog. He told me he had already taken him to the vet and told me all the advice the vet had gave him on bringing the dog back to health. Today the dog goes back for worm treatment. The property manager also confirmed his story. I gave the old man my card and told him I'd take the dog if it becomes too much for him. He seemed to be invested.

People suck. Some should not have animals or kids.
