We continually have screws stripping out of the roof of our vans, the ones that hold up the clips for groomers, grout brushes, etc.

Am I missing something here or is this a problem a lot of you have?

We are using self tapping metal screws, largest diameter we can fit through the clips.

Please discuss, Thanks!

Just the continual vibration and the down ward pressure pulling them. Try some thread lock or go to nuts and bolts with lock washers.

Lock washers with the self tappers or the self tapping screws with the rubber washer built in...

And have your guys not pull downward or be rough on them.. I've been using 1" conduit holder on 1 end close to the middle of the van and a spring clamp on the backside of the van.. Works for us.. I've even see some people use PVC to slide the handle into, but the noise issue wouldn't fly with me...

Use clear silicon sealant on all the items you are screwing to the roof, and use locktite on the screws....

The RTV silicone sealant will help with any vibration and noise, but also help secure the items more....

Sounds like something you should be posting on youtube!

Any chance you could post a photo of how you are using the silicone? On the screws threads or where the installed item meets the roof?

Otherwise makes sense, thanks Mark!
