It's our first dirty ol rug so we are petting it...

Young guy had it and advertised it as Persian. It has a magic marker number on the backing 7786754.

It has some really neat colors and we can't wait to try our hand at cleaning her. The backing shows no signs of spills and is in great shape, fringes are worn some.

Okay,
I know nothing of rugs, other than they stink sheeew.

I did some testing,no color run, vac'd it real good and made a little bath of some rinse for it, scrubbed it around a little and extracted it with a porty. (OMG the shit in this thing IS knarly)
Dried it with fans and my basement had to be odo bombed.

Should I kill it with fire ?

turn it upside down and beat the back really well. Wash it again. If it was that stincky, it was probably wet or still dirty or both, try again a clean dry rug shouldn't smell.

Should I flush it with water for a week before wasting any more chems?

Okay,
Daughter and I rebuilt the Pit and gave it another whirl, we actually used suds this time (Dog Shampoo ) and more elbow grease. Started on the back which became really really bad after I screwed with it the first time. Still dingy looking and there is now a decent sized spot.
Flipped it over and aggitated the front reallly good working in about 2x2 sections then proceeded to start sucking. Looks alot better and is now upside down with a blower puffing it up.

The Black Pit plastic (all I had and lowes was out) had this white looking, Im not sure what was in it film. Yuk !!

All I can say is glad this My RUG
