We have the opportunity to be a vendor for a large commercial building. We've done work for them before here and there, but now they want to bring us in as a "full time" vendor.

We have jumped all the paperwork hoops and have a few thousand in outstanding billings to them for work we did last month due to a hold up with our workers compensation insurance. We also have 3 bids out to them that they are (per email) "extremely interested in moving forward with" and they said "we are very eager to move forward". This is a large account for us. Being the new year, we had to update all our paperwork with them.

We had a few workers comp claims over the past few years and we were dropped from our provider. Now we have to go through the state for coverage. Sent all the paper work in and after a month in underwriting, we found out they want an additional form filled out and more $ up front for the premium. Not a problem, except they don't tell you what they need on the phone.

The whole application is getting mailed back to us (been over a week and we haven't gotten it yet). We have to add the supplemental form and additional payment. Why not just email us the form and let us know how much more they want? Gotta love the government.

What kinds of things have held up jobs on your end?

I had a similar issue with one of my commercial customers. Due to an accounting mishap, I had 2 weeks of not being covered by workman's comp. The work I performed for this customer was before the lapse in coverage but before they issue the cheque, they always call workman's comp to be sure that we are covered. Although the work was already done, because we didn't have coverage on the day they called, they held up the check. I had to bring in proof of coverage before they would release it. More and more, today companies are insisting on proof of coverage. You need to have it before you do the job if you want to get paid. It's cheap insurance if one of your employees gets hurt on the job. One of the most common source of injuries is traffic accidents on the way to/back of a job. Even if you have full auto insurance, they won't pay as they insist it is a work related accident. We resolved our issues with wc and changed the payment system to avoid future issues.

Never had any paperwork problems, I just call my insurance guy and tell him to send it to who ever wants it.. I work for about 5 companies who request it every year.

Just the occasional three or months wait because someone drops the ball and I have to call several times.
