Oh and the fix...

Possibly need to reclean and groom and really hope it is not set from a number of things caused during the cleaning such as heat distortion, etc... And also hope you can get it set so the homeowner agrees with the direction you set the nap now... As they look at it from different angles in the room

Mike, here is what you do: using a Shark steamer, double up a microfiber and clamp it up to the mop head.

Heat up the mop head and gently stroke the fibers in the direction that makes sense for each section. You are trying to heat soften and set the nap. It will work.

Make SURE that no bristles protrude or it will look like a plowed field.

I had to figure this out when I cleaned a couch owned by a blister...

Upholstery tool marks?

I "fixed" someone else's mess that looked like that...They were about to buy $10000 worth of couch and loveseat pair if I couldn't make it go away.

I misted warm water on it and used an orbital sander with yellow Costco microfiber rags. And a final hand wipe down with microfibers to set the pile in the same direction.. It came out great.

yep, except just mist with distilled water and a little peroxide and a yellow costco micro. never tried an orbital sander. once its wet it will move pretty easy

To me , it looks a little shiny, which tells me "Rayon or Viscose" . I would stay away if that is the case. Really hard to tell from the pic.

Non grooming caused it. Can only be fixed by re-wetting and grooming.

I have a sectional I did the same thing to the outside back on.
I cleaned all our carpet, stairs and all the upholstery in the house.

The outside back dries the fastest, it dried before I could groom it. I was too tired to re-wet and groom it. :errf:

What is the furniture worth?

What is your time to fix it worth?

Who is going to pay for this?

Get those answers first Michael.
Another question to consider is...is it natural or synthetic?

I did an ancient couch about 10 years ago...It was real suede. I ended up buying that couch. I still have it in my sunroom. It's a 70's green color. I payed $350 for that stupid couch, and it was the best lesson I learned in this business

"Do like I tell you....not like I just did"! :dejection:

Monkey see, monkey do, monkey make doodoo....

I tend to clean in only one direction with the lay of the nap/ piece on the "non touch" areas... You actually could get away with the London Fog technique on the back and sides... When cleaning the "touch" areas, I'll do the forward and back passes in a straight line over the sawtooth pattern, that seems to help with less grooming... A dry rag most of the time is all that's needed and the velvet carding brush is rarely used...

Was it one of your guys or someone else? Did you send them a bill for $5,000 and tell them that they saved $5,000 by calling you?

It was a big 55+ community's management personnel, that always think they can save money by not hiring professional companies to do these type of jobs.

I just sent them a bill for 200some dollars for a 20 min job to go over the pieces.

If I sent an 800 dollar invoice, they still would have been ok.... They were on the hook - by the owner of the upholstery- for 10 grand.

The fix? What's wrong with it?:confusedd::smile: Looks fine to me!!!!

LOL!!

Heck , some like their carpet raked, some like wand marks. Others would never leave a rotary pattern, while others may like it. !!

But, when cleaning those I either use the felt brush. or towel it which helps with drying . If I can, I ask which the custy prefers. I show them both ways.

It took a full re-wet and re-vac to get it all corrected.

and naturally the customer is now obsessed with ever shadow and direction shade change..
