my carpet cleaning stuff I don't care...I have loaned out my van with all my tools and my 570 for weeks to people...but the reason why I dont care is because I dont just loan it to anyoine.... I know and trust the people who I have let borrow it...

as far as my mechanic and home repair tools...dont even bother asking...

starts with...are they capable enough to use the tool without causing harm to themselves or others

after that...

1.) Have to know them well enough to know I'll get back in a reasonable time frame when they're done
( without having to call or go get it when I need it)

2.) when I have multiples of such (pressure washers, ladders, saws, etc)
and/or tools I rarely ever use

3.) if I don't let them borrow it, they'll want me to come over and fix their chit or mow their grass

3 rules:
NO
NOPE
NO WAY
I used to, people would either take advantage, borrow for “the weekend “, and not return it for 6 months, even after I hound them for it.
They break it, and not fix it....
I’ll usually bring the tool over, and help them out...and go back home, with tool in tow...

Cant have a rule. Every person and situation is different. I usually loan stuff out without worrying too much. Why sweat the small stuff. If I have to buy a new tool it's a tax write off. And an excuse to buy a new tool, which is one of my favorite ways to spend money.

I let my Cimex to a former member here that cleaned an airplane hangar.. he ran out of pads and just kept pushing it around ....wore all the velcro off and most of the rubber until he was all done...never said a f****** word about it

had to figure it out for myself when he brought it back

Rick was nice and sent me three new heads for it

Exactly. My buddy that I said rents equipment #loaned an auto scrubber to his buddy in the biz, and that’s what he did. He run red pads all the way through and continued scrubbing where he had to peel the pads in pieces. Brought it back like that never saying a word. My buddy looking at me saying, can you believe that shit? Me, I can’t believe you loaned it🤷🏼‍♂️

I'll lend to those that I know I can trust. People have trusted me with their equip when I needed it. There are some guys that if they need something, I go with it if I have time. If I don't have time, they have to wait till I do.

I don't lend out cleaning equipment, that's how we make money. I do lend out my personal tools to a very select group of people and always make sure it is returned. I have acquired the tools I have slowly over the years and have agonized/rationalized about making a lot of the purchases. I have made do with Harbor Freight style tools when I couldn't afford better and replaced them with better quality when I could. Nothing worse then loaning out my tools and having them come back abused.

If I do loan out a tool and it comes back like Mikey's Cimex, I will never loan anything to that person again. If I borrow something, like I did recently with a drywall lift, I try to return it back in better condition then when I borrowed it.

Equipment, NO way. When I was like 20 I was asked to loan a firearm by an old class mate that wanted to kill our high school algebra teacher. I laughed it off until it was obvious he was serious. A few years ago he was arrested dragging a ladder up to the White House fence. Apparently he had an "urgent message from GOD " for OBAMA and the president was not returning his urgent calls. He borrowed the ladder from his Roomate when I turned him down. Glad that wasn't my ladder. He ends up in a mental health facility and I went to visit him with another classmate. He was clearly medicated and didn't remember either of us. He was in sad shape, so we bought him a coke and a snickers out of the vending machine and left. NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED : A few weeks latter he remembered who we are and started calling my sister from the pay phone talking nonsense like we are still in high school. She was so pissed with me, you would have thought I gave him her number or something. Finally he gets out and starts showing up at her church.Needless to say she blamed yours truly. Last I heard he was in a facility in New York after attempting to board a flight without a ticket at JFK. The guards at ELAL airlines were not impressed with his need to fly to Israel to give a "message from GOD" to Netanyahu. The moral of the story is I could have been out my little giant ladder and a handgun.

I hope there are no pay phones at that New York facility.

I loan personal tools to select friends.

My F250 andCleaning Van is loaned out but always with a Driver. ME

I have definitely borrowed and loaned. It doesn't take long to learn who is on the once and done list.
