We will check some suspicious furniture quite often....but not always well enough.:errf:

Couple pieces today, we could see slight red hue in the arms at times....

Thought maybe the fire retardant as Mikey had a couple weeks ago for one...then saw the tag which said "do not smoke...could catch fire"

And we just tend to open zippers to check for those darn markers they will also use at the factory as well as trying to ID the fiber a bit more...

SURPRISE AGAIN TODAY!! :eekk: :eekk: :eekk:

When the son in law says "Oh Crap" ..... :eekk:

We sometimes get lazy and don't check all pieces.... :hopeless:

Got lucky today to check this one first as some of the other cushions did not have as much markers and markings....

We really didn't want to clean....clients didn't want to assume responsibility if a problem and told to proceed....so told them, "don't try to clean any spots as will leave bigger spots and maybe other things will come through"....and we proceeded to clean all the carpets in the home and made some money...

Very thankful as I really didn't want to fight with these pieces today after 3.5 hours sleep last night. :(

And....let me tell you about doing "Recovered" Pieces of furniture....seems to be an artist everywhere in that industry too that just has to use markers on the foam....hate those surprises and rummaging through clients bathrooms for hair dryers to bail my but out as I try to fix.... :dejection:

So was the ink bleeding through?

Yes....it seemed to be in the arms...but not that we saw on the cushions....

We of course saw the inside of the cushions when opened up and saw it everywhere....then were concerned that it was other places in the upholstery too for some reason....

Maybe it's early for me here, but if I may ask:

Was this ever cleaned before by someone else? The amount of ink on the back of the fabric in your picture leads me to ask.

I have seen fabrics like this cleaned successfully with an Upholstery Pro on a very dry setting, or an encap detergent applied as a dry foam.

But I still would have walked if the customer wouldn't give me a complete release of responsibility...especially due to the fact there was already evidence of bleed through.

Thank you for sharing this with us all.

When I see marker .. I line a barrier with masking tape, painter tape or plastic .. and if that part of the cushion is not dirty, a deep vac without water is considered cleaning !!

Don't believe they have been cleaned....

The main concern was also seeing red in the arms which I could not get the camera to pick up.....

But than again....all of it was a concern really....

I hate that crap. The real problem is even if you find it on the cushions and slip some plastic in there so yo can clean them. What do you do for the inside arms and inside back. I've had more problems with the inside back than anywhere.

Stooopit to mark it up to begin with.

Evidently it is not 'stoopit' at all. It saves the maker a lot of time finding the right cushions.
And as far as I know nobody ever sued the makers (or at least asked for replacement) for negligently putting markers on the cushions, which will later bleed.

The cleaners on the other hand.........
So, as far as the makers of the piece are concerned and since they are never blamed for it- P.T. Barnum was right- Indeed, there's a new cleaning sucker born every minute.
