So the wife calls a longtime female client about two weeks after cleaning, making sure everything went well.

"Hi Miss Smith my name is bla-bla, with bla-bla-bla. Just wanted to make sure everything went well on your cleaning."

Before she can spit out the next word, client interrupts(yelling:eekk:), "I told my husband to mail the check last week, etc....!".

Now we did know she owed money, but it's been two weeks. Just trying to make sure she didn't forget about us, not find the invoice, whatever. I don't care when they pay, just let us know. At the time I was trying to get as much dough in the bank as possible before the end of month, make our P&L look as good as possible(applying for a new home loan)...

So, husband calls and apologize for the delay...

According to the wife it's a female thing. Apparently they can be a little catty... :icon_rolleyes: I really doubt this client would have responded the same way had I called.

Just seemed odd to me, lady is always nice as pie to me...

It's hard not to take things personal... People have a lot going on in there lives... Could have just been a bad day for her... Not giving excuses for her, just reality... Brush it off and move on...

We collect after completion...

The other day my wife cussed out a moron (with our kids in the car) because he blocked her lane at a drive thru burger joint. She is usually nice as pie but at the moment she is very pregnant. Hormones and bad days can get the best of us. You can't take irrational behavior personal because there is usually something else going on.

Jerry, let's be honest here. It wasn't a "courtesy call", it was a "where's my money?" call. Maybe that's what upset her. (Courtesy calls are usually a day or two after the job.) I think we should all be happy with getting our checks within a month from established customers. Just my opinion.

Yeah, next day is a courtesy call.

The payment must have been on her mind. Maybe that is why she got upset.

This was a commercial job or residential? If it was Residential, you allow customers to pay later instead of right after the appointment? Just wondering because we require payment at the end of cleaning on all residential and really push it for commercial now to. I hate having to call property managers asking if the check was sent yet all the time.

We are mostly commercial and very few customers pay onsite. So long as we get paid and in a reasonable amount of time I'm not concerned. Its not fun to wait but it certainly is not going to stop me from taking someones money simply because they want to hold it a little while longer. Commercial clients rarely give me a hard time retrieving late payments but residential clients have been very difficult.
